Yasawa Island is about 40 km (25 miles) and a two-hour drive by boat from Nadi, and the group hugs its seclusion for 80 km (50 miles). Twenty islands are generally rougher, the towns more traditionally and the resort smaller and more private than the Mamanucas.

The majority of the group' s resort locations are at the north end of Tavewa, Nanuya Lailai and Nacula. The crystalline water, the fringe and marine environments, among them angelfishes, Butterflyfish, octopus, greens and loggerhead tortoises, have given the north end the reputation of being one of the most picturesque parts of the group, often referred to as "paradise".

They are generally bigger than the Mamanucas and more lush as their rising volcano tops are attracting rains. In some of the islands, thick rainforests populated by shy country shrimps penetrate intertidal sections with isolated vulcanic cliffs.
