The ULTIMATE GUIDE TO SAVUSAVU: Fiji's hidden paradise

Before we even came, we knew Savusavu was something unique. Whenever we talked about our forthcoming journey, we got the same kind of reactions with big eyes. avu is known as fiji's hidden paradise. Located on Vanua Levu, Fiji's second major isle, it is not the simplest city to reach, but it is definitely something for every cent you spend.

Savusavu is like the Paihia of Fiji if you have ever visited the New Zealand Bay of the Islands. It is also one of the best places to dive in Fiji because of the blooming colorful corals. Whilst most travelers travel to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands, Savusavu stays a little bit concealed in the back, away from the masses of tourists like an insiders' tip, where only few can be experienced with inside knowledg.

Fiji has many nice places to see - after all, there are more than 330 isles - but a vacation in this archipelago is only completed once you have been to Savusavu. Here is our definitive guidebook to Savusavu - the secret Fiji heaven! Suppose you come from Viti Levu, Fiji's capital city, you either have to take a plane or a ferry to Savusavu.

You can take a small airplane from Nadi directly to Savusavu, which will take just over an h. Instead, we took a 45-minute trip to Labasa, rented a Budget Rentals rental in Labasa and travelled to Savusavu in about 90 mins. Await at least $300-$500 FJD from Nadi to Labasa or Savusavu.

You can also take a direct flight from Suva to Savusavu, which will take about an h. For real savings, you can take the Suva to Savusavu cruise, which begins at about FJD$60 - but note that this is an accommodation cruise that will take about 12 h! There is another Viti Levu to Savusavu via ferries from Natovi (another night stay ), but Natovi is usually quite far away from most people.

We' ve reached the jackpot with our lodging in Savusavu. Through AirBnb we have reserved a beautiful mansion with a wide seaview to Savusavu Bay. From our Savusavu mansion! So if you want to remain here (or any other Airbnb list for this matter) - you can get $25 off the prize by visiting the AirBnB site through this link and signing up in Savusavu for the Korovesi Sunshine Mansion or Vanilla Suite.

You will find several other places to spend the night, such as Koro Sun, Daku Resort and the wonderful Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort. Hi ACTUAL relaxing period for mothers! Dinner at the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is exclusively for our guest. First, of course SCUBA DRIVING! Savusavu cannot be reached without discovering the wonderful sea surroundings and the colorful corals.

A few owners, but there really is only one option if you want to go underwater, and this is the new Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, as already cited. Of course, the simplest response is the fact that it is called Cousteau. Jeannie-Michel is the sire of Jacques Cousteau - only the most important character in the story of the diver!

We did a few logged missions in Fiji and these boys are without a doubt the best surgery we have experienced so far. The name Cousteau has an unsurpassed global name. Have a look at our article about diving in Savusavu with Jean-Michel Cousteau Diving. The Savusavu is home to J. Hunter Perls, who cultivate some of the most rare pearl cultures in the word.

Have a look at our report about the Fiji Pearls Snorkelingtrip! Overlooking Savusavu Bay, this botanic gardens has a selection of over 300 different types of Palmtrees from all over the globe! As in most places in Fiji, there are no big signs to lead you to your goal, so the best way to discover it is with a taste for adventures!

You have to leave Savusavu in about 20 min. until you find a street on the right, just before a viaduct over the town. Follow this street through a town ( "Don't leave your mark and don't let go when you come past them!") and turn right at the end of the street.

A 20-minute run through a small forest (watch out for slick slopes in the rain) to the falls. A beautiful old forest sloshes over the sea on the coast of Savusavu in the direction of the promontory. Though it may seem strange to want a spa in a tropic environment like Fiji, it is a remarkable way to end a full year in Savusavu.

The Savusavu has a number of natural sources of heat. Savusavu Medical Centre has three'spas' for which you can afford 15 FJD$ for one bath. In our travel books there is always a cup of tea - for us it is the lifeblood. keep in mind, as I have been mentioning in the preceding poles in Fiji, the dairy in Fiji is UHT, so café always tastes a little fun as opposed to what we are used to back in New Zealand.

It is the modest place that gets the most ratings from any travel guides to Savusavu. However, we have been told from good sources that this is a great place to eat - so we will add it to our itinerary. The Savusavu Wok, like many other places in Savusavu, has a modest appearance for a China institution.

You can also find Grace Road Kitchen in Savusavu - a Fiji based retail store offering tasty, affordable, homemade Korea cuisine. In Savusavu we were able to wrap a large amount in just a few short get-togethers before leaving for Labasa for a nigh. All we regretted was not having more free space in this concealed utopian dream.

When you want to visit Fiji for a long period of the year and get off the most important touristic trail, go to Vanua Levu and stay some days in Savusavu. Thank you to Jean-Michel Cousteau Diving for the welcome and invitation to join the group.
