What paradise should one go to?

of Tahiti and Maldives. In the Maldives 2 month ago and less than 2 years ago in Tahiti (Moorea & Bora-Bora). There were already tonnes of inquiries for a comparison of the two before I even came back from my Maldives-journey. This is just a few of the question I got after my Maldives-journey.

As you can be either a feline or a canine lover, I can definitely tell you that there is one suitable for the Maldives and one suitable for Tahiti. So where in the Maldives are? Where' s Tahiti on the menu? What is the best way to get to Maldives/Tahiti?

I took the freedom to see the Maldives and Tahiti on a Pacific worldmap. Notice that both places really are a group of small islets ( "atolls" in the case of the Maldives), so the places where I have tagged them are only approximate. The main differences are Tahiti in the Pacific and the Maldives in the Indian Ocean.

If you are coming from Australia, the USA, Europe or Asia - a detailled overview of the flights to Male (Maldives) and Papeete (Tahiti) I wrote HERE. In terms of their populations, the Máladive Islands and Polynesia are almost identical. The Maldive Islands have 393,988 inhabitants (estimated July 2013), and Polynesia has 277,293 inhabitants (estimated July 2013).

According to this information, I came across an item in which some Korean tourist refused to go to the Maldives with a water boiler in their room. Whilst the articles does not mentions it (and uses the ground as Asian Tourist who need the cauldron for their IMM pasta), I have talked to some local tourist industries in the Maldives and explained a general thing to myself: In the last few years, some Asian Tourist have been trapped capturing shrimps and pelagic from the sea and taking it to their room and cooking it with the electrical water boilers.

This, of course, is not to say that all Chinamen do that, but its the sorry statute of some who ruin it for everyone. Other stories about the lack of awareness or the lack of understanding of marine species among Maldives visitors (such as taking babies' shark out of the sea and gambling with them) are causing my own health to rise, but as the number of Maldives visitors increases, the Maldives authorities and all chain hotels are taking steps to disseminate information and avoid further harm.

Masses of people are a good mixture - family, honeymoon, couple and groups of mates. During our Los Angeles to Tahiti trip, almost 90% of the airline's customers were newlyweds/honeymooners - fitting or theme based clothes, with freshly dressed acrylics on. Over the next few years I see a great upswing and motivation of the Maldives tourist industry, as it is becoming more and more affords.

Tahiti, in the meantime, will remain almost stagnating (perhaps stable?) in price, providing the casual sales and packages, but overall the same high cost. During our trip to Male I even heard people seated in front of me speaking of a passenger I knew. On the Maldives it can be a small country and at the same the feeling is that you can't really get away from the crowd.

The Maldives has a large number of visitors, and your private sphere and exclusiveness depend to a large extent on the hotels and resorts of your choosing. Tahiti is really Honeymoonland and if you travel alone or not with your significant other, you may be inappropriate. I choose TAHITI in this round because I value my private life the most on holiday.

I went to 3 Polynesian Isles - Tahiti, Moorea and Bora-Bora. The 3 islets are the place where most visitors go and therefore have the largest number of shelters. The 3 isles have a total of 52 lodgings in all. for Tahiti, 17 for Moorea and 18 for Bora-Bora.

The majority of these are global luxurious chain resorts (Four Seasons, Intercontinental, Le Meridien Sofitel, Hilton, St Regis). When you choose an overseas trademark, the cheapest alternative is a 4-startel. In Bora-Bora, the most popular'middle option' is the Mai Tai Hotel.) Of the luxurious properties, the next steps are usually local ownership in the lodge and pub.

For this reason, the Tahitian market in general has remained at a high, steady level. As soon as you get off the airplane in Male, you will see lines on lines of tables at the airfield. Whilst I accept that there are many luxurious hotels in the Maldives, the place as a whole is no longer an exclusion.

As the number of visitors increases, there are resort accommodation for every type of traveler. There are more than enough places to go from backpackers to budgets, mid-range and luxurious travellers. Resort brand names vary widely, from global luxurious chain stores to local ones.

The good part is that the local hotels' standard is equal or even better than that of some major players. Whether in Tahiti or the Maldives, it is still very important to decide which destination to stay at, as you can make or cancel your "unique" trekk. Due to the resort's competitive position and the Maldives hospitality sector, prices are improving all the time.

For this round I choose the Baldives because of the wider range of accommodations. Maldive is a Moslem state. When you are in Male and on local populated isles, you must abide by the clothing regulations (although the natives say they are forgiving for the way travellers wear clothes, I still think it is important to abide by them).

I have a complete Maldives packaging schedule for country-specific clothes. It is not available in Male or on the local isles. You can enjoy drinking and dressing in stylish fashion at the hotels (where each is its own individual island).

The majority of the employees of the resort are males, with the exclusion of very few Maldive females and the international team. Sometimes you can sense an atmosphere of brotherliness due to the overpowering number of males. The Boduberu (local Maldive dancing and music) is performed in most villages.

I have also felt the awareness of the sex role in the resort. However, I did notice that some of the masculine employees in the area preferred to go to Zombie and talk to him. Polynesia is, as the name implies, a christian empire with Christianity as its major religious denomination. We have a high level of sex discrimination among tourist workers and, having talked to a number of natives, I see that both men and women work in the household and have the same job prospects.

The crowning evening of the 2012 Miss Trans-Tahiti contest at Sofitel Bora-Bora is a prime example of this. Tahitians are generally very open and we have made friends with a number of co-workers from our time there. I hug and am more at ease in France and Polynesia.

It is Tahiti, the actual isle has been shaped by vulcanic activities. Polynesia has many hills and summits, and together with the clear water, it can create a very scenic and scenic setting. Maldives, on the other side, has vast expanses of the Indian Ocean. Apart from the casual islet ('resort' in most cases), the views of the ocean are continuous.

First, I prefered the diversity of the oceans and mountainous areas that French Polynesia has. It was especially appreciated at the remote spot of the Sofitel Bora Bora Private Island bungalows, where one side of the room has a seaview and the other side a hillscape.

Tahiti knows its food and pastry very well, as the land is a France based population. I' ll wager that the Tahitian seafood has a finer flavour in the loaf, as they are usually eaten over sandwiches! One of Tahiti's most important exports is custarded.

You use this in the kitchen and one of the best dishes I have ever eaten in my whole lifetime (a brave aspiration, but very true!) is Mahi-Mahi in vanilla sauce, which we had in Moorea. Eating is costly in Bora-Bora, but we never really had a frustrating time there. On the Kurumba Maldives I tasted shellfish barbecued over cockerel and it was really celestial.

In the Maldives, the increasing number of establishments and destinations also means that the diversity and prices of meals are more diverse. For example, Shangri-la's Villingili Spa & Resingili, where the diversity and qualitiy of the dishes was so good that it needed its own blogs item.

Tahiti, be willing to shell out some of the foods, but know that the qualitiy is really good. On the Maldives, most resort offers an all-inclusive pack, and as already stated, as there are a large number of accommodation, there is also a bigger room for averages.

The Maldive Islands, on the other side, seem to have a more even hot climate with mild nights. However, the main differences are that you can see great white whales in the maldive islands, and in Tahiti they are the real world. I' m planning to go back to Tahiti one of these days and go to Rangiroa to go diving the Haipass.

However, this also reminded me that when we appeared in the Adu Atoll in the Maldives, we actually came across a ca. 6 ft. long ca. 6 ft. dogfish, unfortunately we have no good shots of it, because we were all freezing in the group with astonishment, and only when he came past us, we all thought of shooting!

Bora-Bora Shark Diving: On their travels Tahiti (Bora-Bora) and the Maledives are "the same but different".
