Tips - Aunu'u travel information

Located at -14o17'30 "S, 170o33'E; on the Aunu' u Isle, 1.6 km from the south-eastern tip of Tutuila. The small, peaceful Aunu' u is a fifteen minute drive by boat from Tutuila. Easy to explore in one or two days (but not on Sunday; you will not be welcome), the isle is an approachable break from the Pago Pago traffick.

The Pala Lake is a wonderful area of fire scarlet shifting sand - exceptional from the rim, fatal in the midsection. Across the isle is Ma'ama'a Cove, a kettle of windsurf, spume and reef. SURVEY - Aunu'u Iceland about a kilometer off the southeast shore features the uncommon Lake Rot and quicksands in an endangered caldera that makes for an interesting wander.

It has a quiet town and can be reached on a full excursion by ferry; the smaller Ofu and Olosega are linked by a shore jetty and a little nearer to Tutuila than Ta'u (daily Pago Pago services except Sunday).
