The Nwhi Monument

A new sea monument highlights the role of the shelters. NWHI Monument was honored with the new name "Papahanaumokuakea" because groups question the government's commitment to the protection of this sacred place. Border for the Papah?naumoku?kea Marine National Monument in the NWHI is marked in black.

For us, the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (NWHI) are the source of life. Website and part of the Papah?naumoku?kea Marine National Monument.

The National Maritime Fishing Service

President Bush created the Northwestern Islands of Hawaii in June 15, 2006 as the PapahÄnaumokuÄkea Islands Naval National Monument (PMNM) through Presidential Proclamation 8031, the world' s biggest protected area. Included in the area are the NWHI Coral Reef Ecosystem Reserve, the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge/Battle of Midway National Memorial, the National Wildlife Refuge of the Hawaiian Islands and the State of Hawaiiâs NWHI Refuge.

It' around the corner, Mr. Federal Bottomfish Fishery: The NMFS will pursue the exploitation of a small bottom fishing operation in the NWHI until mid-June 2011, when fishing is discontinued in accordance with Proclamation 8031. In the meantime, NMFS will further comply with government regulations under the Magnuson-Stevens Faishery Conservation and Administration Act. At present, the archipelagic demersal fish populations (BMUS) are shown to be over-fished.

That provision is grounded on isolated exhausted areas on the major islands of Hawaii, while BMUS in the NWHI indicates no isolated outgrowth. As a result, measures to end over-fishing have focused on MHI fishing and co-operation with state fishing. More information is available at Bottomfish of the Hawaiian Islands. For more information, see Bottomfish of the Hawaiian Islands. FREDERICERAL CRUSTACEANS Fishery:

NWHI has been active in the German government's commercially exploited Hummer fishing sector since 1977. NMFS took the preventive steps in 2000 to suspend NWHI fishing while at the same time enhancing inventory valuation techniques. Short-term closing became final in 2006 with the establishment of the PMNM. Parts of the PMNM are identified as crucial habitats for the vulnerable ha-waiian black seals and the vulnerable ha-waiian turtles.

The new replenishment scheme for the haweiian black seals includes high prioritisation measures to be implemented in the PMNM to save this extinct animal. The NMFS is also working with the USFWS to save the Green Tortoise populations in the NWHI. Combating the effects of marine pollution:

The NMFS is working with its affiliates to guide NWHI's effort to eliminate the deposition of naval deposits and find ways to avoid further pollution from our reef deposits and entanglements with listet and other NWHI types. To this end, a PMNM Managment Plans (PMNM Managment Plan) will be developed, which summarizes all the needs and priority of the co-trustee in a uniform one.

PMNM's draft management plan and associated audit will be available for comments and scrutiny in 2008. NWHI Coral Reef Ecosystem Reserve was set up by EO 13178 (December 2000, doc 245kB). June - PMNM was founded by the Presidential Proclamation 8031 (71 FR 36443) under the supervision of the Antiquities Act (16 U.S.C. 431).

This proclamation defines and governs the PMNM's operations, such as the extraction of sea ressources, the conduct of business operations and the anchorage of ships. This operation codifies the bans and administrative actions laid down in the presidential proclamation.
