Guam Island People

People of Guam Island

What do the people of Guam think about the threat from North Korea? People on the island are very friendly to all people. In the last three centuries the Marianas have been home to three ethnic groups. Taijeron believes that language connects people to the island. United Nations calling for accelerated decolonization of the besieged island.

A young voice on a target island:'Very happy to be from Guam'.

The impending atomic conflict and 80% air moisture could not stop the commitment of the J.F.K. Islanders, and so could most others on this minuscule island in the Pacific: Distancing between the United States and North Korea has put the island in the limelight. However, while his destiny can be determined by faraway global leadership, his destiny is in much younger, more down-to-earth palms.

Guam's young people have many different prospects, from the environment to the Church's call, but together they have similar aspirations and aspirations and the urge to safeguard, honour and build the island's bright and prosperous years. People in Guam are US nationals, and although they cannot elect the US Presidential election, they are at the mercy of decisions in Washington, 8,000 leagues away.

A number of young people in Guam seem to agree, as they see advantages in regional relations, while others are strongly opposed to this because they want independence and want to leave their island alone. Approximately 22 per cent of the 160,000 people in Guam are between 13 and 25 years old. We' ve asked half adozen of them about their homes and the way they see the world.

I' m very happy to be from Guam. You' ll become part of all these things, like the Chamorro civilization, the lovely sandy beach and the story. I' m half Chamorro and half Afroamerican, and what's astonishing is that there aren't many people in Guam who will be judging you on your backgrounds.

People in Guam are respectful of all faiths and ethnic groups, at least in my own personal experiences. I' m hoping we get more credit. We' ve got so much talented people on our little island, and I trust that the United States and the whole planet can see and appreciate this in their minds.

Chamorro have a great deal of boast about their past and heritage, which is a really great thing, but sometimes they can persist that we don't need the US on our side and should split up. Being someone who was a Guamese, half Chamorro and half Africa Americans, I have the feeling that the variety of people in Guam and their ties to the United States make it the place that it is.

Hopefully Guam as a whole can be more valued for all the great things it has to provide. To grow up in Guam is a truly unbelievable adventure, to say the least. People here are so inviting and familiar, and everyone knows everyone. To be from Guam can mean many different things for many different people.

I' ve had an interesting own experiment; I' was borne in Japan, but grew up in Guam, I call myself Guamer. Guamanic is a word Chamorros uses for people who are not Chamorro (natives) but have made the island their home. I live in Guam, where I am most at home and where I have made myself what I am.

In Guam from now on I sincerely wish that we will be more environmentally responsible. It is important to save our island, especially the island of corals. It is the island that is protected from the tsunami, and it is the tourist industry that is bringing the most funds to the island. It was the best part of raising up in Guam because it was everywhere.

Overall, I think Guam is quite central. People do not really hold on to party-political identity as they do on the continent, and people act more according to their emotions and have different minds. Hopefully people will recognize and recall that Guam is a true place with the most authentic people.

And I also hopefully they will end the stereotype of the islander. I have seen so many ignoble items of popular culture since the recent North Korean menace that they might not be posting if people simply learned more about our US territories. Many people outside the island are questioning our quiet response to the threatening.

When I was a kid in Guam, I was raised with many members of my extended families, some of whom I saw every day. As a Catholic first, a Chamorro second and an US third, I identified myself. At times I have the feeling that people let themselves be swept away by their identity as Chamorros. To be Chamorro can sometimes make me think that our people and our cultures are better than everyone else's by using them as tools to look down on those who are different from me, but this is not the Chamorro Way.

It is my sincere wish that the people of Guam will finally have what they have been denied in recent times, the right to choose for themselves what kind of futures we want without any intrusion. Hopefully people will realise that we are not peasants, fanatic believers or narrow-minded people.

We' re islander. About five years ago I left Palau, a near island, and went to Guam, but so far everything has been good for me. Currently living in Guam, I am a powerful and impartial Palaouan. Hopefully one of these days Guam can become a US state so that we can all support the US Presidency and Congress, but I think I am asking far too much.

Guam, I think, should concentrate more on learning..... be a little stricter when it comes to educational policy, so that pupils can and will complete their studies in good timing. Wish people could see that Guam contains not only US army couples, but also Chamorro and Guamese. My wish is that Guam be recognised as the island with the marvellous people that it is.

It was quite great and different from other places to grow up in Guam. It' a small island, so you often see many of the same people - I see my buddies everywhere I go. If people ask where I come from, I tell them I'm from Guam, but I'm also half Japaneese and half Irishman, so I' m an island dweller anyway from a technical point of view.

Hopefully people would be more concerned about the local community.... to keep it cleaner.... pure power, maybe collectors, because, you know, we have a great deal of heat. It is also my wish that we can construct more farmhouses and grow more of our fruit and veg. Hopefully with this awareness of Guam, people will see it as a fashionable place, not a strange island with nothing to show for it.

Hopefully people will realise that they are not just army base and that other people are living here. They appreciate its aura, its beauty, it' s story and not only in relation to other places. And Guam is a unique place.
