QOROR - Delta Airlines is intersecting its Palau-Saipan service with effect from May 6 and Palau agents are trying to open up other airlines to fill the emerging aviation void. Secretary Charles Obichang of Public Infrastructure Industries and Commerce said Palau Delta will ask Delta to review its ruling until further discuss.

Delta Air Lines explained in a declaration that the choice was due to lower demands in the Micronesian noodles. The Delta has a B-757 to Saipan and Palau, but will be returning due to high US interest, the firm says. Last year Delta Airlines announces that it will stop all flight operations to Guam. In the meantime, United Airlines last year announces that it will discontinue services between Guam and Sapporo, Japan, and that it will cut the number of services between Guam and other Japan destinations.

Koror-Palau President Tommy Remengesau Jr. said the tourist sector is faced with a challenge, but it will maintain its course of moderating bulk travel in favour of high-quality travel focused on small market niches. "We must maintain our course and realize our visions of a high-quality tourist model," he said on Tuesday in his speech on the state of the republic.

As part of its five-year strategic plan for the tourist industry, Palau targets environmental, culture, sports, weddings and honeymoons as well. In spite of the decrease in the number of visitors arriving in Palau, more money is spent by visitors. In 2017 there was a decrease in overall income from travel of about 12.3 per cent, but overall income from travel per person arriving and per overnight stay rose by 5.4 per cent and 1.9 per cent respectively.

By 2015, the number of incoming Chinese continental passengers had risen to 91,000 by 2015 and has been falling since then. "Because of this sudden increase, it was necessary to take measures to reduce the number of Chinese continental visitors, as our overarching travel policies are geared towards a diverse travel basis that allows us to stay within the sustainability of our physical environment," said Remenegsau.
