Top 5 Great Barrier Reef Island Resorts off Cairns

Wrapped by the hyper-coloured billboards and the softly shimmering palms, you have reserved a pass to Cairnsand theGreat Barrier Reef. Where are you located, especially if you want to stay asleep on the island? There are five of the best island resorts off the shores of Cairns, from the financial to the exaggerated, great island of Cairns.

I worked there as a visiting liaison officers in the 1990' s, when Dunk Island was in its prime. Also without the resorts (closed after a cyclone) there is so much to like about Dunk. It is a subtropical island and a delightful mixture of rain forest and reef.

I also liked to learn about EJ Banfield, the beach robber who lived on the island of Dock for 25 years after a mental collapse as a reporter in the early 1900s. If you don't have anything against the "do-it-yourself" lifestyle of staying on the island, then you've come to the right place. Travel 140km from Cairns to Wongaling Beach near Mission Beach, where the locals take a $40 boat back to Wongaling Beach.

Otherwise, please review the Greyhound bus schedule and take the Cairns to Mission Beach bus. Bedarra Island may be Dunk's little sister, but she has always been the big bro when it comes to the celebrities party roster. Elton John rocks here, Sarah Ferguson (then a princess) jumped out of the limelight of the press, and super fish Kieren Perkins took out the whole island for his mysterious marriage.

Today the residence concentrates on bare-footed luxuries, and with only eight rain forest mansions at a price of about $1350 per room per day (all inclusive), it is nearer to the shore than any other resort in Cairns. Wake up to the view of the shore, cool off under the rain forest roof, knock on the iconic cellar master roster and enjoy a meal prepared to your taste.

You can take a leisurely takeoff from Mission Beach or a 45-minute scenic helipad directly from Cairns to the resort's own airstrip. When Bedarra Island has rain forest recreation, Lizard Island keeps the reef-records. Entrance mansions begin at about $2000 per day (and these don't come with sea views), so this is the island for the lucky few.

There is the infamous Cod Hole - known for Mike Tyson's big-tippers; The Lighthouse - a bomby, known for sweet little submarine anchovies and seven-metre long lesser finback porpoises, and Steve's Bommie - a huge reef thundering with the strangest marine creatures. When the undersea adventures aren't your thing, you can visit the reef research site, walk in Captain Cook's tracks to Cook's Look, eat six stars under a million brightly coloured starlets, and dodge the inquisitive, meter-long dragon lizard, which looks like tiny dinosaur.

The Lizard Island Estate can have 40 gorgeous mansions, but it also has 24 unspoilt sands. It is not suitable for the under-10s. Situated 240 km northeast of Cairns, the only way is a 50-minute-trip. It' not like this island was a mystery. Only one trip this year and Fitzroy Island is on my family's favourites book.

First, the 99-room hotel looks out over a crispy, clean sandy shore from which you can dive into the Great Barrier Reef under water. Sure, the fringe reef may not be as close as the out reef (and that's another 60-minute cruise east), but the one-kilometre snorkeling path is just amazing.

Just an hours after I left Cairns I found Nemo..... as well as angelfishes, parrotfishes, butterflyfish, anemone, coral, tender coral and brightly coloured shells. And I even tickles my first huge turtles - who were as inquisitive about me as I was about him. The whole range of classic kayaking holidays: twin kayaking trampolines, a solid oceansmpoline, and glass-bottom-boating.

So I decided on the actions schedule and awoke early to take the strenuous two-hour rain forest walk to the summit. He' s quite nice on his backpack as well. So, if you can't buy the $35 dinner every day (who can?), get them mixed with the disco discounted food from the beach bar or take your own (you can buy the basic food at the island supermarket), prepare a savoury dinner and come back for dinner on your resortsýbalcony.

You will then attack the moneybox and spend the night at the resort's well-equipped campsite. Select a room with sea views on the second or third floors of the residence and awake with a million dollars sea views. Prior to taking the ferry, take a squirrel in this 48-hour guided tour to live it at Fitzgroy Age.

Cairns Marlin Wharf offers quick feline service from Cairns Marlin Wharf every day for $78 for adult customers. The Green Island has always had a unique place in the Australian heartland. Maybe it's because a young Queen Elizabeth came to visit in the 1970', or maybe it's because she put Cairns on the menu when she created the world's first submarine astronomicals.

However it is, this resorts beats over the weights of its 46 rain forest suite. Like all the other mentioned archipelagos it has sandbeach, crystalline water and plenty of sea live. The special thing about Green Island is that it is a rain forest island on a cayenne. More expensive than Fitzroy Island, the residence is aimed at family ('640 per overnight for two grown-ups and two children, including breakfasts and transfers), couple and anyone who wants to share their days out with literally a hundred people.
