A new ecotourism resort to present the other side of Christmas Island

They' ve traveled the globe in search of adventures, but Chris and Jess Bray will call Christmas Island their home, while they engage in ecotourism like no other in the secluded Australian territory. This is a big break for the island's tourist industries, which has been clouded in recent years when Christmas Island became a synonym for its much slandered immigrant camp.

Approximately 2000 km northwest of Broome, the island is home to 80,000 bird populations, 600 different types of sea life and an expected 45 million crustaceans that move into the sea at the end of each year. Following five trips to Christmas Island, Mr Bray, an award-winning Australian Geographic researcher, said it was a piece of cake that the richness of the island's nature should be its futur.

"We hope to be the first of many tourist activities on the island," he said. "I think the island's general awareness is already moving from prisons and coal mines towards naturalism.
