Local facts

It is the most westerly property in the United States, organised as an uncorporated area with an incumbent civil administration. This is the biggest and most southern of the Mariana Islands in the West Pacific. It is also the biggest of the Micronesian islands. Between 13.2°N and 13.7°N and between 144.6°E and 145.0°E, Guam has an area of 209 sq m.

It' about 6,000 leagues westward of San Francisco; 3,700 leagues west-southwest of Honolulu; 1,500 leagues southeast of Tokyo; 2,100 leagues southeast of Hong Kong; 1,500 leagues easterly of Manila; and 3,100 leagues northeast of Sydney. Mariana Trench, a lowest-known seabed area, is located eastwards of the Marianaas.

In recent years, the isle has experienced from time to time seismic events in the range of 5.0 to 8.7. Trophic windstorms and Typhoons are passing by near the isles. Pongsona, a super typhoon, struck the entire archipelago in December 2002 with persistent 125 metre wind and caused severe damage. Hagåtña (formerly Agana) in the centre of the country is the city.

Guam's total populace was 154,805 (US Census 2000) and is densest in the Nordic and Centres. Chamorros are the biggest ethnical group. English and Chamorro are the offical language of the isle. The Guam Building Codes: Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Island (CNMI) is made up of fifteen Mariana Trench Isles in the west Pacific, just off the Isle of Guam.

The CNMI's biggest and most populous city, Saipan is about 120 northeast of Guam. Further main isles are Tinian and Rota. Situated about 5 leagues south-west of Saipan across the Saipan Canal, the evolution of the Tinian Casinos is attracting tourists from Asia. The Rota is the most southern isle of the Arkipel.

The three communities have sea ports and cosmopolitan airfields and are the only permanent inhabited islets. North of the Northern Isles is the Northern Island Municipality, which was largely displaced due to vulcanic threaten. There are casual quakes on all isles. Trophic winds, Typhoons and Great Taifuns are passing by near the island.

It is one of the days before the United States and Hawaii. The Guam time is 15 and 19 hrs before Eastern Standard Time. The Guam does not keep to daylight savings time.
