In order to get to the Te Aumiti/French Pass, turn off sh 6 into ronga Rd just above Rai Valley, which merges into Croiselles-French Pass Rd and continue to the end. Take a ferry to D'Urville Island. D'Urville Island is an island in the Marlborough Sound along the north shore of the South Island. The island, which has been called after the discoverer Jules Dumont d'Urville of France, is the 8th biggest island in New Zealand with an area of about 150 sqm. and has about 50 people. This island is divided from the continent by the perilous pass known as Te Aumiti.

It is the street from Rai Valley to the pass town in France, constructed in 1957. This is a tranquil seaside resort on the opposite side of D'Urville Island with a peaceful fishermen's, agricultural and touristic centre with a secure bathing area, pick nick sites and DOC-camping.
