For the inquisitive traveler, there was nothing strange about how Janelle Patton was murdered. However, the man from Norfolk Island Tourism was outside the Georgia Court every single day, where the Koronial investigation was listened to; on a commercial level, talking to journalists and issuing his maps.

Out of the ramparts around the former army barrack, constructed in 1832, were coaches and low level stock, but inside Ron and Carolyn Patton were listening to their daughters described as powerfully struggling for perhaps 15 min. when she was smashed and knifed by edged and dull instrument. He was a guest laborer who had been living on the island for two years.

She had escaped Sydney to avoid an abuse and to look for a new beginning; an undisclosed man had breached her trust and mandible in a mid-1990s outbreak. Later, she recounted to a boyfriend, Norfolk Island was the place her folks had spent their honeymoons.

However, it was not a honeymoon for Patton: she went on with a series of broken -hearted love affair and furious meetings with more than one American. Meanwhile, 16 "persons of interest" have been appointed by the authorities to investigate her assassination. No more than 20 natives were ever in the open galleries during the four day of proof, but the island telephones were all high.

Returning the weekend after Patton's Easter Sunday 2002 assassination, Terence Jope, who saw the Sydney lady at a local night club the previous Monday, was left in his Chevrolet pickup on Queen Elizabeth Lookout above Kingston Square. "Jope, who became a "person of interest" to the detectives, said to the cops that he had taken this stance "to watch other folks drive around because he thought it would be more useful".

"There were some great footage of Norfolk on TV," she summed up the case. The" real" island inhabitants (who are descendants of the Pitcairn Islanders) are now quite justifiably worried that the killer could be found in one of the large groups that relocated the deserted convict settlement in 1856.

The Pitcairn Islanders, many of them Bounty rebels, make up a third of the resident population: the Buffet, Quintal, Nobbs, Evans, McCoy, Adams, Young and (Fletcher) Christians. Everybody "on the island" has known for a long time which inhabitants are in this family circle, a group that looks to the Australian and New Zealand land to refresh the genetic stock, as the Bounty-Mutineers once took her.

Out of the 16 people mentioned in the investigation, 10 are true islanders: All Menghetti' s, among them Charles'Spindles', Paul'Jap' and Dana (Buffetts); Raymond'Tugger' Yager and Rodney'Moose' Menzies (both Quintals); Kim'Frenzy' Boyfriend (an Adams); and Terence Jope, Greg Magri and Steven'Stevie' Cochrane (all Christians).

Island Clan', who speaks a mixture of ancient English and Tahitian, but only among themselves, have formed strong allegiances in the years when their mutineers were probably chased across the Pacific. Those interested in the Patton killing could be casted in a lighter locally produced and more darkly coloured copy of Twin Peaks, an Australian gothic.

This 1973 movie starred Edward Woodward, a policeman on the continent and a 40-year-old maiden attracted to a small island in Scotland in pursuit of a lost maiden, with Christopher Lee as father of a heathen community engaged in sexual ritualism. The Norfolk islanders first tried a similar policy with the Australian federal cops and tried to disavow that this was a place where murders could take place.

Janelle Patton's murderer hadn't gotten away that afternoons when her corpse was found. There was Andrew "Buzzard" Rowe, 31 years old in March 2002, a Kiwi joiner who never seems to have hit Patton, but is still of interest to the cops. "Ian Rowe was impressive as an island resident who did not make obvious intimate companions of either sex while he lived on Norfolk Island," said Sgt. Bob Peters to the state.

Anecdotic information was given to the detectives that Rodney "Moose" Menzies, a 45-year-old contracted weed cutter who also drains cesspools, was "a man known for chasing women". But Kellie Marie Worboys said to the cops that Menzies had given Patton "the willies". Patton was telling a friend in the week before her assassination about a tramp she had seen but not seen in her house.

In October 1999, when Janelle Patton came to Norfolk as the owner of a limited travel visa, the natives must have been a mob. She was 40 when Patton saw her in December 1999, while they both worked at Foodland, the island's grocery store. When she had abandoned Charles Menghetti, Patton went to live with Menghetti's sibling Paul, known as "Jap", a 48-year-old machinist and widow with whom she began a life with.

But Patton did not get along with the Japses' kids, especially with Dana, who was 16 at the time. Patton Dana named a "stupid f---ing cow" in her journal. Patton named Dana Crazy Janelle. Others said to the Gendarmerie that Dana was "susceptible to human violence". But Patton wanted something more durable than Jap and went to an apartment of Ruth and "Foxy" McCoy.

In her journal on June 18, 2001 Patton wrote: "Jap down for teach & late on me", then on October 19: "Spoke to Japan (f---wit). He' s my first foe on Norfolk. Patton, like Japan Menghetti, wanted more of the affair than Quintal, who proposed that she would get better.

" Quintal is also said to have driven her out of his home in January 2002. This separation was the subject of discussion between Patton and Michael "Boo" Praentice, who turned 50 at the end of January 2002. Previously, he had been trying to strangle her when she declined to have intercourse with him.

One of Patton's colleagues at the Castaway Hotel said Patton should not build a relation with Prentice because "he does not know the significance of the world no. " He said that Patton was not supposed to have a family. Patton Raymond Tugger Yager, a 37-year-old island joiner, came to meet him in December 2000. Following Patton's assassination, Quintal recounted to the Patton PD that Yager had been to Patton's apartment at least once and claimed to be him.

Yager said the night of Patton's assassination, he spends at least three hour to clean his vehicle, but the cops found a patch of color edged with the color in Patton's color. Norfolk three and a half nights after the assassination. He's said to be in Cambodia.

It is said that Yager replied "Yeh yeh jeh thatsar is being premeditated" (sic). The man who supervised Patton's remembrance services and who was suspected by the cops had direct contact with the dark foil that had been wraped around her corpse was the object of further worrying evidences. At first Leonie Newton hesitated to speak to the cops.

Newton was alone one evening in April 2003, one year after Patton's assassination. There was a plot by the Government of Australia to take over Norfolk Island. There' s no objective or litigious proof against anyone who could persuade the medical examiner Ron Cahill to find anything other than that Janelle Louise Patton was killed somewhere on Norfolk Island by one or more people.

There is no arrests in the pipeline, but at any subsequent trials in which the defendant may be expected to be convicted by a jury of his own, it may be more difficult to find 12 people who are certain not to appear as proof than to solve the crime.
