It was a great mixture of relaxed skirmishes and guided tour through the restaurant menus. I' ve had 4 meals here now and can only say that the food was great and it doesn't make any difference what you order, you won't be upset. D'Urville's has always had an outstanding rep, so we thought we would try, our jubilee supper is all we buy during the days, so we make it a good one and were very excited.

The new Hotel d'Urville owners have big ideas for'old lady'.

It was the intention of the proprietor of a historical Marlborough resort to give the "old lady" back some splendour and take her back to the centre of Blenheim. Kevin Bourke, the proprietor of the Urville in October last year, took over the operation of the cultural inheritance after he had enjoyed a carreer as the proprietor and operator of numerous hotels and guesthouses all over the world.

Visiting the place with his older brother and sisters in the 1990s while managing Dockside in Wellington, he said that a payback two years ago was the inspiring moment to buy the store. "Two years ago, when I came back, I felt that the Hotel d'Urville had gone out of splendour," he said.

Bourke said since taking over the hotels and restaurants that he had already altered the menu and wines, hired a new staff and raised the menu capacities. Replacing the exterior barbecue with a large, specially designed 50-person lounge that extends the rooftop into an indoor area.

Changes in the eating area include the creation of an open plan open plan galley, the addition of new seats along the walls and the addition of an executive desk. He said he was on the second of about ten stages in other changes he wanted to make and had been planning.

Formerly a Public Trust Office Building, this landmarked building was design by the renowned New Zealand architectural firm of William Young.
