Sarm El Sheikh (Arabic: ??? ?????, IPA:[????m e???e?x]) is a town on the south tip of the Sinai Peninsula, in the province of South Sinai, Egypt, on the coastline along the Red Sea. The Sharm El Sheikh is the administration centre of the Egyptian South Sinai Government, which comprises the smaller seaside cities of Dahab and Nuweiba as well as the hilly inland, St. Catherine and Mount Sinai.

Though it was an important tourist center in Egypt, it has become less popular since the catastrophe of the Metrojet flight in 9268. The Sharm El Sheikh ("Bay of the Sheikh" in Arabic) is sometimes referred to as the "City of Peace" and refers to the large number of important peacemaking meetings that have taken place there.

The Egyptians and Israelis often shorten the name of the town to " Sharm" (Egyptian Arabic:[???m]; Hebrew:[?a?m]). It is also sometimes spelled Sharm al-Sheikh, Sharm el-Sheik or Sharm al-Sheik in English. For the Gulf of Aqaba, a hierarchic design concept was chosen in which its elements were assessed and divided into areas, towns and centres.

According to this concept, the Gulf of Aqaba was divided into four cities: Taba, Nuweiba, Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh. The Sharm El Sheikh town has been divided into five homogenous centres, namely Nabq, Ras Nusrani, Naama Bay, Umm Sid and Sharm El Maya. The Sharm El Sheikh town, together with Naama Bay, Hay el Nour, Hadaba, Rowaysat, Montazah and Shark's Bay make up a major population area.

When the Sinai was rebuilt in Egypt in 1982, the Egypt authorities launched an effort to promote the further growth of the town. In Sharm El Sheikh, the heights of the building are currently limited by legislation on green zones so as not to obscure the surrounding area' s unspoilt beauties. The hottest temperature in Egypt's towns and resort areas is Marsa Alam, Kosseir and Sharm El Sheikh.

In Sharm there is also a conference centre on Friedens Road, where many important dates of important trade and politics have taken place, among them peacemaking conventions, ministers' gatherings, the meeting of the Arab League and the meeting of the Arab League. The Maritim Sharm El Sheikh Convention Centre can hold up to 4,700 people.

Sharm El Sheikh's night life is contemporary and well-designed. Around the center of Sharm, known as Naama Bay, are a number of cosmopolitan hotel and renowned restaurant establishments with links to the top of the cost. EU and US citizens do not need a Sharm El Sheikh entry permit if the stay lasts fortnight or less, although those traveling outside the Sinai area need a permit that can be purchased upon entry for a small surcharge.

Sharm Harbour has been converted for personal and sailboats, with a ferry port for passengers. It is approached from Sharm El Sheikh International International Airport, Egypt's third biggest Aiport. There are regular buses to Cairo from Delta Sharm sta. It has also become a popular place for diving from all over the globe.

Sharm El Sheikh offers a wide range of aquatic experiences for those who visit. Tiran Strait lies at the foot of the Gulf of Aqaba and in a large canal. Sharm El Sheikh Hyperbaric Medical Center was established in 1993 (with a subsidy from USAID) by the Ministry of Tourism of Egypt, through Dr. Adel Taher, to help with dive-related diseases and to round off the region's fame as a full-service scuba resort.
