Traveling to Lhaviyani

The tranquil and charming Lhaviyani islet consists of 50 islets, of which only five are populated; another eight are resort sites. Naifaru, the Maldives' capitol, is famous for its mother-of-pearl craftsmanship, a favourite keepsake for the visitor to the Toulouse. On Felivaru is the first canned cannery of the Maldives, opened in 1978.

There are also many tourists, and more resort are still being designed and constructed.

History of Lhaviyani - Ships -

This shipyard is the most renowned shipyard in the maldive islands and one of the emblems of the Lhaviyani atoll. Sinking at the site was the first vessel of the Japan freight carrier Hokomaro. It was one of the first tunnel fishing boats to be used in the Baldives, initially known as "Hokomaro 3", but when it reached the Baldives, it was re-named "Skipjack 1".

When Skipjack 1s reached the end of its life, it was deliberately intended to be submerged between the Lhaviyani and Baa Atolls', but while towing the vessel catched fire and descended to the site where it is now. Situated at a depth of approx. 30 metres. There is no mention of the second nave's originality, but its history is not.

It first landed in Maldives without a permit and after having run aground in Maldives water, the Maldive authorities took ownership of the boat and re-named it "Gaaffaru". Goverment then used the boat as a freighter between Male and Colombo. In 1984, when the boat sailed from the northern Maldives to Male, the boat crews tried to get to Felivaru for the necessary repair work, but just a few metres from their target the boat sunk to the depth.

Fortunately, the captain succeeded in swimming ashore before the vessel went down and remained intact.
