Kapiti Expressway is a four-lane highway through the Kapiti Coast, just off Wellington, New Zealand. From February 2017[update] it extends from Mackay's Crossing just to the North of Paekakariki to just before Peka Peka, avoiding the former two-lane road through Raumati, Paraparaumu and Waikanae.

Work on a 14 km long northerly expansion road just outside Otaki, by-passing Te Horo and Otaki, is scheduled to begin in the mid-201. This section from just south of Mackays Cruising to just South of Poplar Avenue near Raumati in 2007 was finished with the completing of the Mackays Cruise and Railway Bridge, avoiding the crossroad.

Mackay' s previously built four-lane section from Crossing to Poplar Avenue was expanded into an enhanced street in 2016 and early 2017. It is built on an old bog and over the years it has developed an irregular area. Groundbreaking took place on 6 July 2017 on the Peka Peka - Otaki line and will be completed in 2020.

Mackay' s major direction - Peka Peka Expressway was finished four month earlier and the street was opened to the public on 24 February 2017. Expressway provides an important section of the Wellington Northern Corridor, a long-awaited extension of State Hwy 1NW. The motorway is a crucial connection to the lower part of the island and to important provincial targets, as the current motorway (which will soon become a municipal road) does not provide good service to its occupants.

There is a bad balance of security, is susceptible to windstorms and accidents, and the riders are often trapped in nose-to-tail-transport. This was also needed to help drive anticipated housing and commercial expansion throughout the Wellington area. Less congestions on city streets as transport is shifted to the Expressway.
