This three-year-old, luxurious 93-room estate, which includes 9 suite and cottage apartments, is located on the shores of the huge lake of Ashtamundi in "God's own land", also known as the state of Kerala. If you are flying inland, Thiruvananthapuramis is 70 km and the hotel 150 km from Kochi.

The Ashtamundi Lake is Kerala's second biggest and lowest wetlands and the south gate to the famous Kerala-Bakwaters. Winding its eight branched 10tacles around the hotel's open cloakroom, it blows in a soft breeze and offers a spectacular view of the lake sundown from the pool, the rooms, the fitness studio and the cloakroom.

Every night the hotel provides a free trip by sea at sundown for all our clients, taking advantage of the hotel's exceptional position - the rooms are called about half an hours in advance as a souvenir. Similarly, a culture show takes place in the hotel foyer every night.

I am not sure if it is different from time to time, but the night we went down, a small but perfect shaped young lady played Bharata Natyam - a classical Indian dancing originating in the temple of Tamil Nadu - known for his charm, cleanness and delicacy. You can also arrange a range of other free on-site activity-a schedule provided upon check-in, which includes rock-jumping, angling, sari-binding, Malayalam immersion, and observing chefs' cuisine.

All around the front desk there are blasted photos of the famed Indians who have been on the estate - like President Pratibha Patil and Bollywood super star Shah Rukh Khan - pose with what I assume is the hotel or ICT chains as a whole.

In good Hindi hosts I noticed that the morning snack bar was equipped with a "live station" where a cook prepares delicious, crisp doses or omelets to order. Most of the remaining offerings were concentrated on India cuisine, with the customary South Asian idleness soup desserts (steamed biscuits ), roasted lentils doughnuts, zambar, chutneys, filled paratha and several other regional breakfasts.

It takes place at Lake Side and if you decide to enjoy sitting outside, the scenery is perfectly set with the sparkling waters under the intense India sun, surrounded by the silhouette of palms. Ristorante de laSide offers a clear and well thought-out internatonal meal as well as a department for Kerala specialties and roasted barbecued kebab.

The Allepey Chemeen one of the highlights of the regional kitchen was the curried one. They were shrimps (chemeen) in uncooked mango (manga), coconuts, curcuma, and with shallot, chilies, ginger, chili pepper, chili powders, chili pepper, cilantro, sorghum clover, musf kins and cuticle. One was Ashtamundi myen curry, basically a Keralanic seafood cursor, which has different denominations according to where it is eaten in the state.

They were diced seafood (dictated by what was fished on that date - often plaice with dark spots), cooked with grated coconuts, Tamarindjuice, Chili, Knoblauch, Ingwer, Korianderpulver, Kurkuma, Bockshornlee, Curryblätter and with Senfkörn and Schalotten, and it was very good. Offers of meals in a hotel can often be a disappointment.

While I would normally never order them on a brief excursion abroad (diving is always the top thing in the kitchen ), I had a desperate desire for alternate tastes when consuming three meals of India for almost three wards. Döner meat was extraordinarily tender and productive, professionally seasoned and a true delight, after we had eaten a great deal of vegetable meal during our previous India-journey.

While they were feeding a large group for their lunches, we passed by the eatery by chance. A series of leafy bananas loaded with all kinds of delicious tropical meals awaiting the arrival of warm paddy and popadoms. Raanthal, a large afloat yacht, is also available for rent, whether for larger groups organising party, entertainment or an informal and relaxing evening meal, or the Shanghai Club, which specialises in traditional cuisines.

It was a high point of the visit, especially in the eatery, with particular reference to Ashvin. Polite, effective and with a great manner and approach, it was a delight to be waited on by him, and we always took care of him when we went to the place. Ayurveda has 12 beautifully furnished rooms with views of the scenic lakeside and a variety of local and foreign cures.

It is''Green Leaf certified'' (the highest assessment for Ayurveda institutions by the Kerala government) and provides Ayurveda massage as well as rejuvenative and healing cures. Temporary blackouts occur in the hotel - very short and only for a few seconds, you hardly notic them.
