Partnering with the Congregation of the Christian Church in America Samoa

The General Synod in 1999 proclaimed a "Partnership in Mission and Service" with CCCAS (Congregational Christian Church in American Samoa) to recognize the intensification of relations between the two communities and the fast expansion of the Samoan communities in the United States. Today there are more than 60 CCCAS communities in Hawaii, Alaska, California, Washington and Oregon.

It aims to reinforce the service of these communities and the missions of both of them.

"Falesa " means a Samoan language school. Samoa, even American Samoa, must be one of the most faithful communities in the world. There are not only cathedrals in every town, but the cathedral is also the centre of its population. Besides the home, the Catholic faith is the centre of our lives, and in fact the Catholic faith and the Catholic faith intersect to a very great extent.

Heads of the families, the men and woman entitled as well as the other men and woman, are practically all strongly engaged in the congregations, in which they bear responsibility in supplement to their sacred tasks. Of the many myths that pervade Samoan civilization, one is that an old Samoan king has predicted the arrival of various men with a new faith that should be hugged by the Samoans.

John William (or Ioane Viliamu, as he was known in Samoan ) was the first one ashore. It ended up right here in Leone; the upper photograph shows a monument to this even. This is a different perspective of the monument with a look at Leone: There the Methodist Church established itself early and is still dominant.

Except for the US Army I would wager that most folk from here who go on to higher learning do so by study deity to come back as minister, deacon and other chapel officehood. There are some who do it quite well, on a impoverished isle some of the bigger clergymen are living in big homes and driving beautiful SUVs.

Chyndi and I attended Sunday morning Holy mass in the Catholic Matagaluega Koluse Paia, the parish of the Holy Cross. The Sunday service is great, it is in Samoan with some English, just a little, but lots of vocals and parish attend. As I have already said, I have to say that the vocals in churches are just marvellous.

It''s too bad I can't take it to perform for you; I have to make do with a few pictures of the cathedral to show you what it's like: Kolusa Paia Sacristy The other great congregationalist in Leone is the CCCAS. I' m paying my rental fee to CCCAS!

This is the CCCAS in Leone. Part work detail, entrance to CCCAS Leone Next are a set of photographs of churches from all over Samoa, as well as Samoa (Upolu). There are quite a few here, but every single cathedral is adorned, kept neat and in good condition. After the horrific 2009 tidal wave, the Samoa Orthodox and Orthodox communities were among the first rebuilt and renovated structures.
