The Ranon Town is situated on North Ambrym lsland, Vanuatu. Ships also sail to the towns of Ranon and Nobul between the eight isles. There is a small shop just fifteen minutes on foot from the town. In general, Vanuatu provides a one-of-a-kind culture adventure. The Vanuatu region has similar opportunities for growth as its Pacific neighbors, which have dispersed archipelagos with restricted service to help distant destinations.

There are more people who speak the language in Noumea (still a part of France) than in Vanuatu. However, you will not find the variety of activity you will find in Vanuatu or so many people. Take a look at the NBB for Noumea, as you may be able to get a room with a host families in France if this is the primary objective of your itinerary.

However, for a varied culture experiment I would look at Vanuatu, where there are many French-speaking people, a few local shops, a flourishing Alliance Francais group, colleges that are teaching in the language, but as a visitor you will not have a colorful taste of colonialism.
