1st day: Christchurch to Dunedin

A scenic ride along the east border of Fiordland National Park and the jagged southern coastline provides an introductory tour to the southern parts of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Site. Attend Te Hikoi Southern Journey to find out more about Riverton's bicultural past and make a stop in Tuatapere, where you will find many nature and historical sights along the trail and many recreational possibilities - hiking, trekking, hiking, mountain bike, angling, hunting, boat trips and speleology.

In Te Anauownship, the gate to Fiordland National Park, you will find a wide array of attractions including the Firefly Grottos, the Te Anau Bird Sanctuary and the film Ata Whenua, as well as a number of accommodations and restuarant. It is the ideal starting point for exploring the majesty of Milford and its dubious sound on brief strolls, hiking tours lasting several days or boating trips.

First part is relatively gentle arable land before retreating into the Buchenwald at the entry to Fiordland National Park. Watch out for the mirror lakes, which provide astonishing, reflecting outlooks on a clear sunny mornings. Milford Sound, a 22 km long fjord overlooked by Mitre Peak, is reached by the roughly carved Homer Tunnel.
