Colourful Fishes are only the beginning!

Lehua crater is in an exquisite state, with little movement and disturbances in its state. The best snorkelling spots are found on corals, which are the food source for many types of sharks and other sea creatures. Most of the time, the system of corals consists of limestone, but the external layer of corals is actually intact.

Not only is Humuhumunukunukunukunukuapuaa a long term, it is also the Hawaii State one! Lehua offers a dramatically diverse marine environment with magnificent coral reefs, exceptional cliffs, and steep walls, as well as nutrient-rich water where pelagic gather. During our snorkelling trip at Lehua Crater you will often meet large groups of colorful sharks, among them pyramids, millet seeds and banner butterflyflies.

There are other colourful marine life around, such as wrasse, groupers and bandits perch. Werasses are light, colourful whitefish known for setting up purification units where they purify large whitefish and eat them. Scorpionfly, also known as Hispanic turkey is a very colourful species, easy to recognise by its feathered, colourful sting.

Trumpetfishes are long and thinish, often changing colour from brilliant yellows to greens and blues. Most of them can be up to three foot long, but most are smaller. Odds of seeing one are highest at Lehua Crater. Colourful Fishes are only the beginning! Besides a wide range of different species of sharks, you may be fortunate enough to meet larger sea creatures on our Niihau-trip.

Mantas are a particular pleasure for snorkellers, not to be mistaken for stingrays. Mantas are large, shallow, careful beings without a thorn. Be fortunate to meet a mantas or the speckled stingray that are found in the Niihau area. Inquisitive monk seals sometimes seem to see what all snorkellers are up to.

Hawaii' monk seal is often seen around Lehua Crater. These have an mean length of about seven ft and are between 300-600lbs. It feeds on lobster, squid, eel, plaice and other small marine life and small intestines. You can go down to 500 ft and stay under water for 20 mins.

Marine tortoises are widespread in the area and are easy to spot while snorkelling, but should not be bothered as they are a conservation area. Shrimps, crustaceans, molluscs. On our Niihau trip shark are seldom seen, but they are not afraid, because in contrast to their reputations they are very timid and sharklike.

They are the most common species as small whitetip and blacktip shark are hanging near coral and flatwaters. There has been a very unusual meeting with a whale shark; these solid, soft animals can grow up to forty legs long, they are not seen so often that they take the Camerawatch.

Nobody is sure why, but often Delphine play a race in front of boots, so keep an open mind while we are out and about. Delphins are seen on our trips every day, mostly during the trip. It' s not often these frisky animals come to snorkel with us; they like to hunt the ship while it's moving.

Hawaii' spinner dolphins are seen on a regular basis and get their name for their unbelievable acrobatic. It swims quickly and drifts out of the sea, jumps several meters into the sky and often does several turns before it sprays back to the sands. Dolphins are also often seen, one of the bigger dolphins; they can grow to a length of twelveft.

The other dolphins found in Bawaiian water include: Snout Dolphins, Rough-toothed Dolphins, Rissos, Striped Dolphins and Fraser's Dolphins. The Hawaii is known for its moguls, but we often see other less widespread fish such as this short-finned pilot whale. As we cross the canal between Kauai and Niihau, we can also see many cetaceans.

They are found in groups of ten to twenty cetaceans and can grow to a length of fifteen to twentyft. Shortfinned pilot whale has a bellied bowhead and can grow up to 24ft. This melonheaded whale is about two meters long and favors deep water and is often found in large groups of over 1,000 animals in a capsule.

The other cetaceans regularly seen in Howaii include: Bluewhales, finwhals and various species of orcas, spermaceti and minkewhals. Humpbacks are widespread in Hwaiian water from December to April each year. From Alaska, where they feed their summer, they hike into the Pacific's hot water every year to breed and have their cubs.

Sighted during the hibernation period, they perform fractures, punches, cock strokes and other activities that can be seen on the surfaces.
