Ferry connections to Stewart Island, schedule, transportation between Bluff and Oban

  • from Stewart Island: Visitor terminal at Stewart Island. Stewart Island guests who wish to carry extra luggage can arrange for these objects to be transported by appointment. Due to the ship's dimensions and restricted loading capacity, this is not available on all ferry connections. In Bluff, adjoining the Bluff Visitor Terminal, you can park by ferry to Stewart Island.

Ferry Stewart Island Experience

Checking 30 min. before ferry departure, reservation required. There is a car park next to the Bluff Visitor Terminal. Pick up and return at Invercargill i-SITE Visitor Centre, Tuatara Backpackers, Victoria Railway Hotel, Invercargill Airport. Nov-Apr. pick up from the Real Journeys Visitor Centre Te Anau. The Stewart Island Experience retains the right to change schedules, cancellations, replacements and fares at any given moment.

State-subsidized visitors' tax of $2.50 per person per one-way ferry ticket is charged for adults.

Transportation in Stewart Island

The Stewart Island Ferry offers ferry sailings on our Catamaran fleet between Bluff and Stewart Island (all year round). There is year-round ferry and coach traffic from Invercargill (and Te Anau and Queenstown - seasonsal departures) operated by Stewart Island Ferry Servies (Bluff - Stewart Island). The Foveaux Strait on our exclusive catamaran.

Observing Molly Mawks (Albatros) behind the ferry is a magnificent view. Upon your arrivals, take a captivating Paterson Inlet Cruise (and head to Ulva Island) or a Village and Bays tour. The Stewart Island is ideal for a full outing. Please note: The price for the ferry is reduced: Rates are per capita and are calculated on a round Trip on Stewart Island Ferry leaving Oban or Bluff from 1 October 2017 to 30 September 2018.

Cancellation / change of an individual reservation will only be refunded if Stewart Island Experience is notified 24 hours in advance of flight time.
