Francis Joseph is a "cool" small city in the rain forest with some cosy pubs, cafés, cinemas and heated swimming pool, close to the foot of the Franz Josef Gletscher. Franz Josef was named after the ice by the geographer Julius von Haast in honor of the Austrian Kaiser.
