It is a singular representation of ancestral cultures that perform various everyday functions, the woodcarvings are one of the best insights into the island's early age. Until 1994 there was no mechanised transport for tourists and natives on Easter Island. As the movie fueled the theatres, it revived worldwide interest in the island.
It is understandable that the sculptures are the greatest attraction on the island, but here are a few hints to make this unique journey even more amazing: Stoneplatforms on which the mai are built are named Ahaus. Tongariki is the island's tallest Easter Island, which was overthrown and struck by a tidal wave during the island's civilian-war.
There is a giant face hewn into the stones in the foundations below the sculptures, which lies on its side. Whilst most visitors are visiting the Rano Rakku Quay, where almost all the sculptures have been constructed and moved, there is more to see than a piece of foam.
