First Starbucks was opened on March 31, 1971 in Seattle, Washington, by three couples who gathered during their studies at the University of San Francisco: Moby-Dick' s name was included in the book: Starbuck, after taking into account "Cargo House" and "Pequod". Thinking about Bowker, Terry Heckler, with whom Bowker owns an ad firm, thought the words beginning with "st" were mighty.

Somebody drew out an old mine card of the Cascade Range and saw a mine city called " Starbo ", which immediately reminded Bowker of the Starbuck-type. Moby-Dick didn't have anything to do directly with Starbucks; it was just a coincidence that the sounds made sence."
