Motorhome through the North Island of New Zealand

New Zealand.... It is such an awesome and stunning place, and there is no question that traveling in an RV is the best way to see everything. I am fortunate that I have been to New Zealand before because my friend is a kiwi, but this was my first trip to the North Island.

North Island has so much to boast in the way of scenery, cultural life and activity. Renting a motorhome is definitely the best way to do it if there are at least two of you. New Zealand's distance is not too great, so you will need to travel a maximum of 3hrs to get from one place to another.

Not only is your motorhome your transportation, it's also your "hotel and restaurant"! When you' re in a motorhome, you don't have to follow busy coach schedules, you can stop anytime, anywhere for as long as you want. If, like me, you're only on the North Island.

From the town we also went to Piha beach, just westwards of Auckland, a nice sandy area with good wave and surf. It is a great area to travel around with a wonderful landscape. There is a hot surface under the sandy bottom of HotWaterBeach, so take a shovel with you and begin to dig your own personal hot tub!

One of the few spa towns we visited was Whakarewarewa ($30), where Maoris have inhabited for hundreds of years. When you travel by motorhome, there is a large free camping site named Raids Farms, along the Waikato River, just a few moments from the city. We have a nice stroll to the Huka Falls, which is about 2 hrs from the city (one way).

There is even a free locally hid warm current along the stroll, so take your swimwear with you. It' s so clear; I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before. The waterfalls can also be experienced on the surface by getting very near to the centre with a jet boat. 4 km daily hike in the Tongariro National Park, known as the best daily hike in the canyon.

Again, a motorhome or auto makes it much simpler as you can leave it at your destination and take the shuttles from there in the mornings to your starting point ($30 each way). It is an astonishing hidden sandy area with good waves, whitish sandy beaches and hot waters.

Go along Kuba Street, the alternate and artistic side of the city. If you have your camper, you can make a trip through the cove that starts from Evans bay and extends to Lyall Bay. Below are some suggestions on how you can incorporate New Zealand into your multi-stop flight - I can do any itinerary, just ask!
