Meet Guam: Dededo, where things are happening.

Dededo's historyThe story of Dededo is made more difficult by the fact that the borders of the town have undergone major changes during the 20th cent. In the early Americas, the north half of today's Dededo was the town of Machanao. The majority of Machanao became Andersen Air Force Base and Naval Communications Station, and Machanao is no longer a town, but a part of Dededo.

Prewar the town of Daededo stretched further southwards and included today's Tamuning-Tumon-Harmon towns, while the centre of the old Daededo was located in today's Harmon between the two-storey McDonald's and the San Miguel brewery buildings. The Dedo began in the early 20th as an area of widespread ranch in today's Harmon Industrial Park.

Near today's restaurant Harmon McDonald's was the centre of the town with the Padre San Vitores School opened in 1929 and the church of Santa Barbara. Angling also had an important part to play in the lives of many inhabitants of Dededo, as the town was only a brief carriage or horseback riding trip away from Tumon Bay.

Two shops also existed, where the inhabitants could trade agricultural products, especially coppra, for various goods. In 1941, at the beginning of World War I, 1,529 persons were living in Dededo and the Tumon and Tamuning area. Astonishingly, the town of Dededo survived the Second World War unscathed.

Nevertheless, the inhabitants of the dedo soon found out that the settlement was to be leveled anyway for the building of Harmon Feld, an airbase for the Luftwaffen. By 1946, the locals began moving to the new settlement of Liguan, about two and a half leagues due north, in an area formerly known as Liguan.

The new church of Santa Barbara was constructed here in 1947. During the 1950', although humans began to move away from farming, as jobs became available in the nearby Naval Communications Station, Harmon Air Base, Naval Air Station and Andersen Air Force Base facilities, it remained a close alliance.

During these years Tagalog and Ilocano workers were also accommodated in Camp Marbo, just in the eastern part of the town. Several of these men settled in Dededo on a permanent basis after their agreements were over. In November 1962 and 1963, the situation in Dededo changed again when the Karen and Olive Typhoons devastated most of the town.

Dededo's first large residential development in the mid-1960s was the 1,500-house imperial sub-division on Y Sengsong Street. Chamorros from the whole village and newly arriving Filipino homes were drawn to these contemporary homes to establish themselves there. This shelter also covers 22,456 hectares of federal-owned Guam land in U.S. Air Force and Navy facilities classed as an "overlay" shelter.

Guam's Guam Refuge has a visitor centre with an exhibition of Guam's bird life, some of which are dead because of the destruction of an imported kind, the Riteidian Unit of Guam's arboreal serpent. It was the site of an old Guam hamlet and also has several coir orchards from the time when the area was used for coir-trading.

The Coco Palm is a private residence in a remote area of Urunao, also known as Coco Palm Park Garden. Surrounding the complex, the area is wonderfully planted with beautiful plant and flower life and offers visitors a front line spot on the northwest coast of Guam.

Detedo fleamarketThe fleamarket is located in Dededo's Buffer Zone, along Route 1. Dededed Skate ParkBuilt, with the support of U.S. Housing and Urban Development, is financing this 11,000 sq. meter skate park, which opened in November 2007. There are several barriers, among them concrete platforms, stairs, handrails and a skating tray, which can be enjoyed free of charge and off the roads.

The Guam International Country ClubThe Guam International Country Club is located directly on Route 1 towards Yigo and is an 18-hole course created with the help of Ayako Okamoto, a pros. Micronesia Majorca, the biggest commercial centre in Micronesia, is located in the city of Dedo on the edge of Route 1 and Route 16 (Army Corps Drive).

This two-storey shopping centre has a shopping centre, almost fifty retail outlets, an exhibition area, a tourist office, the Guam Museum satellites area, hairdressing rooms, toyshops, cinemas and about twenty restaurant, quick meal restaurant, a café, an icecream parlor, a biscuit counter next to a confectionery outlet, an entertainment centre and an games room, a bank and a mart.

Sport ResortsDededo is also home to several sport resorts, such as the Guam Sports Complex, the Robbie Webber Soccer Field and the betting angel Rugby Field. Start Guam Golf ResortThe Start Guam Gold Resort is located along Route 3A, NCS Guam. The Tanguisson Beach ParkThe Tanguisson area lies at the foot of a rock in Dededo.

The Lost Pond freshwater hole, located at the north end of the area, is a favourite destination for local people and people. In the vicinity are the remains of an old Chamorro town. The Catholic Church of Santa Barbara, the Catholic Church of St. Andrew (Korean), the St. Paul's Assembly of God, Pacific Revival Center, Abundant Life Church, Victory Chapel, Guam First Church of the Nazarene, Iglesia Ni Cristo, Family Baptist Church, Baha'i Faith, Korea's Seventh-day Adventist and Calvary Baptist Church are some of the most important church groups and religions in the town.

There are several government and non-governmental colleges on SchoolsDededo to house the increasing number of inhabitants of the island's most populated town, which includes Guam's governmental schooling: the SchoolsDedo Schools: The Astumbo Primary and Finegayan Primary Education, Juan M. Guerrero Primary Education, Maria A. Ulloa Primary Education, Wettengel Primary Education and Vicente S.A. Benavente Middle Education; an archdiocese of Guam School:

Catholic School Santa Barbara and two privately run Catholic schools: St. Paul's and Pacific Christians School und Pacific Christians Academy. In the 2008-2009 school year, three Guam Public School System colleges are to be opened: Liguan Terrace Primary School and Astumbo Middle School. Machanao (before the Second World War), which today belong to the Dededo community, are Pugua, Mogua, Caiguat, Falcona, Urunao, Achae, Ritidian, Pajon, Alacunao, Tailalo and Machanao themselves.

Town festivals: The Catholics of Dededo are celebrating two feasts of protectors: Dededo has 42,980 inhabitants according to the 2000 US Federal Census. Describe the village: It is Guam's second biggest and most densely populated town, covering 30 km2 northwest of Guam. The major part of Dededo is located on the Guamlimestone plain above the northern aquifer, an important freshwater reservoir for the Isle, as it provides about eighty per cent of Guam's potable waters.

Micronesia Majorca, the biggest commercial centre in Micronesia, is located in the city of Dedo on the edge of Route 1 and Route 16 (Army Corps Drive). There are several small shops and other shops along Route 16 that take care of the Filipino inhabitants. Along this stretch there is also a two-storey McDonald's Restuarant, the Guam Power Authority's head offi ce and the closed Iglesia Ni Cristo church.

Behind the shopping centre to the south are several residential complexes on both sides of Route 1, which were constructed in the mid-1960s and 70s. The Dededo flea market is located on the street towards the most northern Guam town, Yigo, and is full of frightened buyers on weekends in the morning to make good bars.

Continue down the hill and on the other side of the hill is the Dededo Skatepark with several obstructions such as carports, handrails, stairs and a skatepan. Situated on a plot of ground shared with Lencho Parc, the skatepark is made of stone. This area is bordered by the busy Route 1.

The area known as Dededo Ville is located behind the area. "It is the main plaza where the mayor's offices, the municipal centre, the communal libraries and the Catholic church and Santa Barbara schools are located. It is not the primordial centre of the town, which was along today's Route 16 before WorldWII, but after the Second WorldWar several Dededo inhabitants moved further up North after the US army had used their lands to construct an airport in today's Harmon Industrial Parc.

There were other immigrant elders all over the country who came to Dededo after the end of the Great Depression. The area was established as a residential area for IDPs after the destruction of the typhoon Karen in 1962. In the whole town there are several colleges, a football pitch, a garbage collection area and a course. It has two sandy spots off its coast.

Tanguisson Beach is one of them, with its lovely cliffs, in a remote area at the foot of a small, curvy street.
