Mikronesia is a name used to describe a wider area in the Pacific and is also used specifically for the FSM (Federated States of Micronesia) archipelago in the west Pacific, northeast of Papua New Guinea. The Federated States of Micronesia consists of 607 isles with an area of 1,800 mile.
Its most important archipelagos are Chuuk, Pohnpei, Yap and Kosrae and the people of these archipelagos are called Chuukese, Pohnpiean, Yappese and Krosraeans. There are an estimate of 108,000 people living on the archipelago, more than half of whom work in the public service sectors. If you are an American, the Amendment Compact of Free Association allows you to reside and work in Micronesia without a visas.
