What is a Barrier Island
About a Barrier Island?barricade island
an extended, partially livable barrier sandy area that protects the continent like in cyclones and floodwater. It is a long, small sandy island that lies in the middle of the sea and protects the shore from the effects of soil degradation. Accessible isles have typical dune formations along the outside, inner areas of flora and marshy areas along the inner part of the lake.

Barrier Islands - how they work
The barrier islets, sometimes also known as barrier spears, can be found on the coasts of the whole globe, but most conspicuously on the east coastline of North America, where they stretch from New England over the Atlantic coastline, the Gulf of Mexico and the southern hemisphere to Mexico. Accessible Island are favorite resorts, from Atlantic City, New Jersey, to Miami Beach, Florida.
A lot of the population owns holiday houses or condominium apartments on barrier isles, and other barrier isles are being developped for them. Barrier islets are, however, sensitive, continuously evolving eco-systems that are important for marine biology and ecosystem management. This has endangered these eco-systems and raised the risks of material damages from storms and nor'easters every year.
We will study the sensitive eco-systems of barrier isles. We investigate how these archipelagos are created, what habitat and habitat they have, how they are changing, what effects the trend has and what leisure pursuits make them attractive to visitors every year. Accessible islets are long, thin off-shore reservoirs of sediment or sandy material that run along the coastline.
A number of barrier archipelagoes can stretch over 100 mile ("160 km") or more. There is a flat clay, cove or lake between the island and the mainland. Accessible isles are often in coastal chain and are divided by close intertidal cuts, such as the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Barrier island building is complicated and not fully understand. According to the latest theories, barrier island formations were created about 18,000 years ago, when the last ice age ended. Surges and flows brought further sediment, which developed and the barrier islets were created. Furthermore, streams were washing sediment from the land, which set up behind the island and assisted in building it up.
Accessible island fulfil two major roles. Let's take a look at the parts of a typically barrier island.
