Auckland Must-do Day Tours

If you are going to visit Auckland for a quick trip or if you are going to visit the whole of New Zealand, it is always a good plan to get out of town for a day. There' so much to see within an hour's ride from Auckland Town and the YourDrive crew here would like to join our 5 Auckland Daytrip.

Auckland' s most famous sandy spot is one hours westward of the town. Wrap a picknick, because when you get to the waterfalls, you don't want to go! State Highway 16 and take Urban Route 13. The Waiheke Island is reachable by boat from the center of Auckland.

Be sure to queue early as the boat can be very lively on warm, sunshiny weather. Auckland City and the wonderful port, among them Rangitoto (New Zealand's youngest vulcano and another great day trip to Auckland!

On the island, it's simple to find your way around. You can take a bus or taxi around, or you can collect your YourDrive hire and discover the island like a pro. Enjoy your day at one of the many beautiful Waiheke-Sea. Favorite is Palm Strand with clear water and sand.

On the northern side of the island it is rather protected from the winds. There are two barbecue areas on Palm Beach, ideal for a group reunion. Or you might want a long meal in one of the Waiheke Island vines. There is a small (but steep) footpath from the boat station at Cable Bay.

North of Muriwai Beach is Woodhill Forest. Take State Highway 16 to Waimauku, turn lefthand onto Muriwai Road. At this point you can signpost. Hunua Ranges is one hours from Auckland Central and offers the breathtaking Hunua Falls. For a longer rest from the hustle and bustle of the town, there are several campsites to chose from.

Take State Highway 1 and take the Route 20/ Manukau junction. Turn lefthand onto Redoubt Road and then turn right onto Mill Road. Turn right onto Dominion Road and continue to Hunua Road. At this point you have to signpost to Hunua Falls. It is a very local favourite, offering a wide range of products and tasty dishes from all over the area.

The Goat Island Marine Reserve is only a 15 minute' driving distance from Matakana. Take State Highway 1 to Warkworth and turn right onto Sandspit Road. Register with YourDrive (valid driver's license required) and hire vehicles from local residents instead of going to a local hire company.
