JLL's CEO Nick Hargreaves says: "It comprises stalls with indigenous shrubs, hiking trails, burrs with unbelievable vistas and all the wonderful Waiheke soils. Waiheke is dear to us, but it's our family's turn to do something else," he says. It is 25 min by car from Matiatia Wharf, where the most important public transport is.

It' 18 min from Kennedy Point, where the Half Moon Bay auto shuttle stops. A popular seaside resort for Aucklanders, Waiheke Island has breathtaking shores, vines and dining just 35 min by boat from the Central Coast and more than 60 departures per daily.

Housing costs have increased significantly at Waiheke in recent years. The average housing cost in Onetangi in 2014 was $595,000.  This picture went up to $725,000 in 2016 - an increase of 21. 8 per cent. During the same time the average housing cost in Oneroa (the major town nearest to the major shipping terminal) increased by 19.

The biggest rise in Palm Beach's average home prices has been from $710,000 in 2014 to $1,139,500 in 2016 - an upward trend of 60. The Waiheke also attracted widespread interest at Lonely Planet (Best in Travel, 2016), the New York Times (one of the "places to go" 2013) and the US journal Travel + Holiday (The World's Best Islands - the top South Pacific and number four in the world).

Waiheke Local Board proposes an environment centre with maritime, nature protection and educational institutions. The proposal is for a 200 berth yacht harbour near the Kennedy Point's current auto-suspark.
