Wawhiawa is situated in the centre of Oahu, 6.4 km northerly of Mililani and about 32 km northerly of Honolulu. Wahiawa is special because it is encircled on three sides by Lake Wilson, also known as Wahiawa Reservoir or Kaukonahua. In order to get to Wahiawa, you have to cross one of two viaducts on the Kamehameha Highway.
Whiawa is encircled by farmland and army base, among them Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Army Airfield and East Range. Wahiawa befindet sich auch die U.S. Navy's Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Pacific. Wahiawa's south is becoming more and more urbanised as more and more homes are being built.
"Wahiawa downtown" isn't really a touristy city. Most of the inhabitants are members of the army, and Wahiawa also has a large Philippine community. The Dole Plantation is a favourite visiting attractions outside Wahiawa. You have a beautiful botanic gardens with many colourful beads. Wahiawa's Botanic Gardens with many indigenous and naturalised Hawaiian flora and the birthstones of Kukaniloko, an old site in Hawaii, are two other places worth visiting in and around Wahiawa.
