Two-Party Visits to the Solomon Islands, Samoa and Vanuatu, Media Statement, 06 December 2016, Australian Foreign Minister, The Hon Julie Bishop MP

On 6-8 December we will visit the Solomon Islands, Samoa and Vanuatu in the company of labour senators and business partners, Hon Penny Wong and Claire Moore, to underline Australia's non-partisan efforts for Pacific instability and prosperity. There will be meetings with the Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers of each of the countries on a number of topics such as territorial integrity, developing opportunities and emergencies.

On the Solomon Islands, we will reaffirm Australia's continued engagement for a peaceful and stable environment following the withdrawal of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) in June 2017. At Samoa, we will emphasize Australia's efforts to mitigate global warming and our intensified investment in Samoa and the Pacific. We' re also announcing $1.4 million for temporary bridging, $1 million for the Samoa Agribusiness Assistance Project under the leadership of the Asian Development Bank and $1 million to the Samoa Family Health Association.

At Vanuatu we will monitor our efforts to rebuild since tropical storm Pam in March 2015. Included is Australia's $35 million long-term rehabilitation plan, which focuses on areas such as literacy, healthcare, tourism und sex. We will also be signing new PCAs with Samoa and Vanuatu during the tour.
