New Caledonia & Vanuatuvanuatu: the underrated gem of the Pacific
The Iririki Resort & Spa was rebuilt and relaunched in 2016. Over the last few years, two hurricanes, a vulcano and the deaths of a dear Vanuatu have shaken the country. The Vanuatu was not even listed in the 2018 World Risk Report. The trip from Port Vila past the new 16.5 million dollar port area shows a fresh scenery.
It is our goal to take a brief cruise across Mele Bay - Iririki was reconstructed and restarted in 2016 after it was destroyed by Cyclone Pam in 2015. Still my tropic archipelago imagination, doubting. Fiji is less expensive for a family and New Caledonia is more exclusive. So why go to Vanuatu? Vanuatu has more than 100 different tongues, making it the most multilingual country in the world per head.

Take-off and landing strips are generally shortened, take-off and landing strips are usually unsealed and operation may be restricted by meteorological factors or cloud formations due to vulcanic activities. Vouatu regularly suffers tremors and occasionally even a tsunami. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and Panuatu Meteorological Service provide real-time information on local avalanches. When there is an earth quake, take the advices for all catastrophes and: If you are in a coast or lowland area and the earth quake is severe or long, go to a higher area.
A number of activity vulcanoes can be found in Panuatu on the Tanna, Ambae, Ambrym, Lopevi, Vanua Lava and Gaua isles. Don't go to Ambae Isle. A visit to an activity vent is a security hazard. Public officials in the city of Vanuatu are monitoring the tourist flows of volcanic eruptions and discussing the extent of the exposure.
A volcano has five warning stages; from zero (normal, low activity) to five (very large outbreak, insular danger). Observe the instructions of the relevant authority.
