Geographical Study Trips

The Vanuatu has cascades, protected areas, rivers and the Mt Yasur vulcano (on the island of Tanna), and all are inaccessible. Below you will find an example of a journey of the Toowoomba Gymnasium in geography and culture. Stage 1: It was a Friday night Air Vanuatu departure from Brisbane.

Whilst no cash was needed on that date, a Vanuatu National Bank official was at a stand to exchange cash and an ANZ ATM. The group was taken to the Cocomo Resort (apartment with swimming pools and café by the swimming pools, five min from Port Vila).

Dag 2: After breakfasts, Port Vila Amazing Race Discovery. This group was divided into three groups, each with a specific coach and rider to track the directions in and around Port Vila. The" race" ended at the colorful Mama's Markets, which are open 24/7 but closed from Saturday afternoons to Monday mornings.

After lunch at the Chill Restaurant (overlooking Port Vila Harbour, opposite Mama's Markets), free time in the afternoons ( e.g. playing Beachvolleyball, angling, kayaking, bathing). On that night I jumped on a coach and the Erakor Island Resort shuttle for coffee and a film on the shore. Coongoola will take you to one side of Moso Island (also known as Tranquility Island) to the tortoise reserve to name a tortoise, mark it and discharge it back into the sea.

On the other side of Moso to Hapi Tok Bay (Bislama for'Happy Talk') - great snorkeling on the shore, swim from the shore, close to the coves and a BBQ on the bays. Sundays and relaxation in the hotel. Except for the two major cases, which are quite dramatic, there are about six swims on the way up/down and you actually get under the water.

We went from the waterfalls via Mele Village to the quay at Hideaway Island and for dinner at Nipper's Beach Bar & Café. A free five-minute trip to Hideaway Island for snorkeling in the protected sea area - and for those who want to return a special greeting card home, there are watertight ones that can be left at the world's only submarine postal service.

Collection from the Ekasup Cultural Village at 15:45 for transfers. A group was taken to the airfield and flown to Tanna to spend the night and go on a liveaboard trip to the Mt Yasur lavaava. Group day-teams at Tanna International Airfield. Non-Tanna Group met Vanuatu Ecotours at 8:30am with the Vanuatu Ecotours guide and headed to Rentapao River for a kayaking liveaboard - discover small mangroves rivers, find some bathing spots, get closer to the bird and bat world.

Canoeing, pre-departure lunches and bush walks to Lololima Cascades (waterfall on a privately owned plot with caverns and a swim with a' Tarzan' cramp. Group Two departs early to the Tanna International Terminal for the Tanna flights, Group One to Tanna International Terminal. After Group One returns to Nambawan City for luncheon at the Nambawan Cafe, transfers to a nearby rural college for a trip and a gift of stationary and sportswear.

Vanuatu is rather understaffed in comparison to Australian colleges and very thankful for the fund. For some free activities - swimming, kayaking etc., before supper (restaurant as the night before for group 2). The second group also traversed the plains of volcanic Ash at mid afternoon to the Mt Yasur to reach the edge before nightfall.

The second group came back from Tanna and went to Nambawan Cafe after noon. Both groups gathered at the resorts end of the day to exchange information about the resort's free time and a barbecue on the water. A few pupils have decided to go snorkeling, angling, swimming, playing volley-ball, kayak and so on.

At the end of the day it was again to bring the tropic tanning into a Toowoomba-season! E-mail us to talk about how to arrange a geography educational trip for your university!
