Counselling a top -ranking in the World Risk Index for Earthquakes on how to finance efficient climate protection measures means Anthony Polack is giving up his work. It is one of the most susceptible to climate changes and catastrophes. This was emphasized in the early hour of today, when an 6th 4th Vanuatu quake struck.
Over the last 15 years I have worked for various governmental and institutional bodies in the field of climate protection and renewable energies. I' ve always been interested in global developments, so after working on the Clean Developement Mechanism for the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate in Germany, I volunteered with the Government of Australia in Vanuatu.
My aim was to help first-hand to mitigate the effects of climate changes on the small islands and least advanced states. Worked with the government's power department and used my experience as a foundation for my M. Sc. dissertation on renewables and electricity in Vanuatu. Since then, I have concentrated my work on small states working in Palau in the North Pacific, a European Union-funded projects for the Pacific Community's power efficiencies and renewables, and Fiji in the South Pacific for a United Nations (UNDP), UN Environment and World Resources Institute Climate Finance Readiness Program financed jointly by the Germ.
So what does it mean to be an authority on the Hub, and how will you be supporting Vanuatu? It is the number one in the World Risk Index and is regarded as one of the most susceptible to climate changes and catastrophes. In 2015 Vanuatu was ravaged by cyclone Pam and had in April and May cyclone Cook and Donna.
I work to support and support the country's climate financing effort to improve accessibility to climate financing to help mitigate and adapt to climate changes. In particular, I am committed to developing capacities both institutionally and personally, sensitising and improving communications on climate financing and enhancing the governance of climate finances to address the trustee needs of the GFC.
In addition, I was engaged in the development of standards for Vanuatu National Advisory Board for Climate CHanges and Disaster Risk Reduction to support Vanuatu's GCF National Implementing Entity credentials. If possible, I will also help to complete the submissions of climate protection products and applications for financing to the GCF.
What can the hub do to transform the climate changing climate regime for climate-damaging nations? For example, a good start in the search for climate funding for an agricultural in Barbados can also work in Antigua and Barbuda and in Vanuatu. On the other hand, an initial climate adjustment program in Vanuatu can also be repeated in Namibia, Swaziland or Jamaica to obtain similar results.
Sharing information, skills and experience is made easily accessible, making the hub a key source of information for climate financing and capacity development.
