Maui 5 day sample program

Probably the most beloved of the islands of Hawaii, the "Valley Isle", has something to offer for every guest. This could be explained by the date of two totally different volcanos, Maui's divided character between eastern and western Europe. These 5 unforgettable experiences in Maui take you to the best places in Maui to maximize your stay while having lots of relaxing and unwinding times on the sun!

In March I stayed a whole weeks in Maui while travelling the most important islands of Hawaii to author this and other itineraries. Maui' s very advanced, maybe too advanced. The most beautiful coastlines are being overhauled by resort and course developments, its streets are clogged and its shores are..... OK.

What is covered by this 5-day program? Visit other Hwaiian Isles? The Hawaii Traveller Guide Collections includes routes, guidebooks to the best and more. These are some important hints for Maui. Don't miss to discuss the things you need to know before you visit Hawaii, where you can find general advices on how to visit the Hawaii islands, and how to cut your expenses.

It is a year-round travel resort and is visited by visitors all year round. Like in Kauai, the high season and the meteorological conditions will influence your stay in Maui. Throughout this time the rainfall on the islands is high and it could ruin a trip to the more humid traditional parts of the islands like Hana.

During this time the Maui Passat wind - which blows all year round - is strong, provides a wind and blows away the humid atmosphere. Maui is warm and arid during the Americas summers, even in the tropics of Hana. Northeast to south: It' also important to keep in mind that as on all of Hawaii's Hawaii' isles, Maui's Leewards and Luv Coast often have a totally different climate.

Generally, the northern coastline of the Isle ( "East and West Maui") is more windy, drier and wetter, while the southern coastline ( "East Maui" in particular) looks sunnier, drier and sometimes more like a deserts than a tropic heaven. That' s why most of our resort are located on the southern shore.

So if it is a wet weather on the northern coast, a fast trip southwards is usually sufficient! Maui' s living off the tourist trade, seriously. I was not so upset when I went to Maui in March, but I wasn't alone on the sand. There are three major airlines flying to Maui, which you should be aware of when you book your trip to/from Maui and when flying between the islands.

Kahului International is Kahului International Center (OGG). There' s also a third Hana International Airports, but it is less likely that you will fly there. It makes perfect business sense to spend the whole of your holiday in one place and discover the islands by road.

But the only difference is the panoramic route to Hana, where it can make perfect business to stay oneight. Maui' s accomodation rates are among the highest in Hawaii. I' m not sure if this is due to a supply/demand problem, but I strongly recommend booking in time and being ready to make a "Maui premium" mental.

Here is a full listing of Maui accommodation that you can reserve on-line. Like in a preceding section, Maui's southern shore (the lee side) gets a barrel of sun and not much consistent rains, especially during the sommers. This is also where the island's biggest beach is located, so it is no wonder that most of the Maui's major resort areas are located on this bustling side of the isle.

West Maui, the coastal area between Lahaina, Kaanapali and Kapalua, has many high-end hotels, golfs and malls, while the coastal area between Kihei and Makena in East Maui is quite the same, but with bags full of "down-to-earth" facilities the further you get from Wailea.

Situated on the southern seaboard of East Maui is where you probably have a better shot of locating vacation rental and freehold apartments for rental. There is always a good atmosphere and the best northern shores are only a stone's throw away. Over the last few years, Maui has brought to live a number of cottages in the inland area.

In the secluded town of Hana, the visitor often spends one or two nights relaxing on the fabulous panoramic trip. When you don't stay overnight here, it's easy to get up early or split the trip in two (see route page 1). Unfortunately, backpacker tourists in Maui will not find too many budgeting choices, as is the case on almost all Hawaiian isles.

Here is a full listing of Maui accomodations that you can reserve on-line. The Maui is an isle where you can hire a vehicle for special viewing events and take the coach from your lodging to a certain point of the daily. I strongly suggest you hire a vehicle from landing to departure (make sure you hire from the right one as there are several airfields on Maui).

Featuring so many tourist around, rivalry is rigid and rates are quite aggressive, so you can always find a good deal, especially if you are hiring for more than three nights. It is astonishing that it is not so usual to hitchhike in Maui and biking is very much appreciated, but in my view it is quite perilous with all the automobiles and lorries on the bustling highways.

There are a few extra things to consider if you want to explore Maui by car: In Maui it is really not necessary to hire a four-wheel drive, as most of the time you are on asphalt streets. However, the only exceptions are the 5 mile dirt track on the HWY 31 on the southern shore, where rentals forbid 2WD, although this dirt track is usually only good in drought.

It is a rather mature place and has many people. Prepare for obstructions around the "traffic lights" on the southern coasts (East and West Maui) and Paia. Unfortunately, burglaries by cars are quite frequent in Maui, especially on calmer shores, the panoramic street on the north shore of West Maui and all important touristic stop on the street to Hana.

Because Hawaii is a'zero defect' state, rent a vehicle will frighten you to death and provide unbelievably costly coverage schemes. Along with these 5 day Maui tour, I suggest you take a Lonely Planet travel guidebook to Hawaii for useful information and to better comprehend Hawaii's cultural and interesting histori.

When it comes to packaging, a trip to Maui is all about the beach, aquatic activities, excursions and restaurants. Nevertheless, there are some beautiful walks in Maui, the best of which are in Haleakala Crater (see page 3). When planning to walk in Maui, be sure to bring the right footwear, sweat-resistant clothes, hiking sticks, etc.

When you' re just going to Haleakala to get the view (and of course, when you're hiking), be sure that the up here is VERY chilly, so wrap up the same things you would for a New York winters by doing a shift construction. In the Maui Driver Hints section you will find related hints, which include burglaries in Maui.

Maui' s sands can be very perilous when the waves are high. Do not swim in the remote parts of the northern bank of West Maui (see the 5th day), always pay attention to the lifeguard and of course your belly. It is known that there are raids on the shores of Maui, especially on the southern part.

Your first 5 day in Maui will be devoted to the fabulous journey to Hana. It is one of the most popular excursions in the USA and for many of Maui' s tourists the high point of their itinerary. The Hana Highway is part of a footpath from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries that circles the entire archipelago, connecting Maui's most isolated villages with the remainder of the country via a winding highway that winds its way over gorgeous ocean crags.

It is no mystery, as you can guess, but a wise day's plan will help you make the most of this excursion in Maui. Professional tip: Since the tropic north-east coastline of Maui is often troubled by humid conditions, I suggest to go to Hana on the first morning (if the conditions are good).

This way you get it out of the way and/or have extra nights to get back to your favourite places if you feel a little hasty. When you don't want to stay overnight in Hana and stay out of the way of the crowd, I suggest you leave early, drive directly to the farthest point and work your way backwards.

Logistic for the day: In addition to the above mentioned inside information, here are a few more important hints for the trip on the panorama route to Hana. When you are not staying in Hana, select your matches and start enjoying this unique time. Remember to take things with a granule of sea salts when it comes to meteorological forecasts about Maui.

I' ve seen a petrol pump in Hana, but I'm not sure if it's only for local people and if their pump is always full. The goal is to reach the street at 7 o'clock in the morning, if it is only a daily excursion. Its farthest distance is the Kipahulu National Park Kipahulu Wood, 2.5 hours from Wailuku by car.

Hana and its surroundings have many possibilities for "real" accommodation, although they are quick to make reservations. Apart from the innumerable landscape stations, the street itself is extremly sluggish, especially when you are passing Kailua. Be very careful, patient and polite! A few native riders, but above all exaggeratedly self-confident travellers (mostly with hired Mustang convertibles), have no streetlike manner at all.

Burglaries are very frequent - especially in Twin Falls - and will spoil your holiday. Attempt to keep your car in places that are less susceptible to burglary, such as occupied entranceways, next to meal stalls, etc. A few spots could invite you to a fast stop for photos, but if there is a clearly forbidden poster, there might be a good one.

We' ll be visiting Mars in a few and a half hours, but today we are exploring the Kipahulu side of Haleakala National Park. Both sides are not linked by street and cannot be joined on the same date. All the way out of here, the really good thing is this 4 mile (back) route, which is one of the most worthwhile walks in Hawaii!

Prepare for a brook cross which you can probably jump over if it has not rained too much in the last few dail. Journey from the Wailua Falls to Wailua Falls through a rough area known as Oheo Gulch. It is the slowest and perhaps the most beautiful part of the Hana Highway.

Prepare for a single-lane street on which 10mph appears like a distance. Wailua Falls is a very favourite stopover due to the immediate vicinity of the waterfalls to the panorama street, and if you don't want to take a bath, it is also a fast one. Although it is known as the "Panorama Route to Hana", there is nothing unusual about the city itself.

Sure, there is a historical temple and an abundance of biological food stalls, but what is impressing in Hana is the relaxed way of being. I' ll let the photos speak from here..... definitely one of the best beach in Hawaii! Waianapanapa State Park offers not only pick nick spots but also wonderful coastlines, old Hwaiian places and one of the most popular sandy beach in Maui - Pa'iloa Beach.

This could be a good budgeting choice if you want to be spending more than a days on the stage propulsion, but you need to log in in advance and have correct camping gear as sleeping in your car is no. Amazingly, this quickstop was one of my favourites on the panorama ride and provides a nice possibility to take pictures.

It is a fast stop with real Parken, which comes exactly in the right instant, if you need a good distance. Rock up to the lookout for great southern vistas to a void in Haleakala Crater and northward to the peninsulas of Wailua and Ke'anae. When you need a short rest from the falls, turn right into the rugged descent to the Ke'anae Peninsula.

Ke'anae is like the Kalaupapa peninsula of Molokai in its shallow form and has a very peaceful town where nothing really happens, a quaint, jagged sandy beaches and a quaint little cathedral whose outside is much more imposing than its inside. An idyllic stop at the 13 miles looks out over the greenery. Per tip: The route between Honomanuay and Haipuaena Falls (see below) is breathtaking, so drive slowly and stop (where you can) to admire the view.

This" hidden pool" is no longer a mystery, but if you are travelling with kids or if it is a seldom, slower days on the Hana Highway, it is definitely a good idea to take a bath. There' are very few car parks at the trail head to the waterfalls (around the 11km mark ), but you can just go for a little walking and stop before or after.

If you take the panoramic route to Hana on the famous route (from south to south ), the Twin Falls are the first true stop, so they get a crowd of people. It has two parkings, a overflow and a central one. In general, be very cautious and prevent overcrowding, as Twin Falls is particularly prone to auto burglaries (see "Maui Riding Tips" for more details).
