Mm-hmm: Bajaiian road trip: Exploration of the Maui by road

Travelling in Hawaii goes back hundreds of years. Maui, an Isle of Hawaii, has attracted discoverers since Admiral Jean-François de La Pérouse arrived in 1786. With over 727 sq. m., Maui is Hawaii's second biggest with over 120 nautical mile shoreline to explore. Kilhei to La Perouse Bay: Coming from the centre of Kahului, take Hwy 311 to Hwy 31 (AKA Pi'ilani Highway).

To slow down and overlook Ma'alaea Bay, turn right on Uwapo Rd to Kihei Rd to pass through the city of Kihei. Remain on Hwy 31 to get around Kihei. In Wailea, the street turns southwards into Wailea Alanui Drives. At the lights at Wailea Tennis Center, turn to your right and head eastwards.

Turn right onto Makena Road and Makena Beaches, a favourite snorkel site with shower and toilet facilities. If you are going on, you have to go through the Makena State Park entry. A stop here to see the biggest unbuilt sandy and unspoilt sandy beaches on Maui. Return to the past by driving to the La Perouse Bay caves.

While you are driving, the street becomes an unsealed roadway and finally ends simply. They have reached the place where the last volcanic rock was flowing on Maui in 1790. Haleakala Highway: The Haleakala National Park offers stunning lunar vistas of the Haleakala volcanic craters. At Kahului take Hwy 36 and turn right onto Hwy 37 (AKA Haleakala Highway).

On the 37, you will pass through Maui's historic Sugarcane Field near the Pukalani city. Take the 37 and when the street begins its climb to the vulcano, the street number changes to 377. By mile marker 6 the street starts to change back and the number changes back to 378.

Proceed to the Visitor Centre, which is located near 10,000 ft, so height-related illness is possible. To have a surfing adventure, ride here in the darkness of the darkness of the day, and set a location on the banister to observe the sundown. The day the sundown breaks through the sky, a local Park Rancher is singing a song from Hawaii.

On the way to Hana: It is one of the most beautiful roads in the world: Patient is decisive for this impulse. Hana Hwy begins on Hwy 36 in Kahului and heads eastwards through the hippy city of Pa'ia, the last place for natural gas and toilets.

Just after the trailer towards Twin Falls, signposted by a small park and smoothies lorry, the motorway number changes from 36 to 360 and the route starts at zero. Ohe'o Gulch and Haleakala: Haleakala's roads are mostly dirt roads, therefore hire cars are not recommended.

But the street isn't as rough as it looks. Before leaving Hana, take a rest at Troy's on the Beach in Koki to enjoy some barbecues in Hawaii. On to Hamoa, where the motorway number changes back to 36. In Kipahulu you will see signposts for Haleakala National Park and the renowned Ohe'o Gulch (AKA Seven Sacred Pools).

Keep driving on Hwy 36 and the street becomes gravel. A few kilometres later the street is cobbled again, but embraces a breathtaking rock. It is also known as the Pi'ilani motorway, but it is not connected to the motorway leading to Makena. When the street circles the vulcano and leads to the western side, it becomes Hwy 31.

You will see Cow, Goat and occasionally Maui-stag. Then the street leads past the southerly areas of Lavafields. You will then turn into the interior where you will come across Maui's only vineyard, Tedeschi. When approaching the Haleakala Highway, the street number changes to 37 Take the Haleakala Highway to get back to Kahului. From Wailea or West Maui, it can take 30 to 45 minutes to get to where the highway is.

West Maui Mountains: A trip through the West Maui Mountains is not so beloved, but just as nice. The tour can be starting from Kahului, but since most of our guests remain in Ka'anapali, we do so. Take Hwy 30 (AKA Honoapiilani Highway) towards Kapalua and Honolua Bays.

Keep leaving behind the masses of people and smart houses. But without forewarning, the street suddenly becomes narrow to a single track and the tarmac condition deteriorates. Now, head eastwards and you will see another astonishing spot, Kahakuloa Head, a huge vertically formed cliff as the Kahakuloa Strait goes down. Once you have crossed the single-lane viaduct of the town, the path climbs up at every serpentine with a magnificent view of the small town.

This is Karen Lei Norland, a Maui artist. If you are prepared, drive further eastwards on Hwy 30, which then merges into Hwy 340. Soon after the farm the street goes down and the harbour of Kahului comes into sight. Suburb buildings line the street when you reach the border. In order to get back to Ka'anapali, take the 330 to jump over Kahului's traffic jam and connect to Hwy 30 again.

Hwy 30 is a four-lane through road to Ma'alaea Bay, where it falls to two tracks. Though this motorway is full of locals and tourists, there are many nice landscapes when driving through Maui's only tunnels, Olowalu. There is a sand shore along this motorway, all of which is open to the general public. 3.

Along this street lies the historical fishing town of Lahaina, which has retained its old allure. I If You Go to Maui: Kahului (OOG) is the island's major airfield and most car rentals. Accommodation in Maui: Ka'anapali and Napili are the most important holiday areas in West Maui, while Kihei and Wailea are in the north.

The kind you ride in Maui: Bear in mind that if something happens on the streets furthest from Kahului, mobile-phone facilities are patchy to non-existent and breakdown vans are inexhaustible.
