What time to travel on the Aranui? Was someone on an Aranui trip in September, October or early November? We are trying to determine when it would be best to go to the Marquesas Islands to see them in their most beautiful form and to prevent an overcrowded boat, overcrowded islands and a population battered by overcrowding.
The Marquesas group is experiencing a completely different type of climate than the others in Polynesia and the climate does not influence the islands much from one months to the next. When I Googleed the best travel season in the Marquesas group, Lonely Planet's information on the issue was not very useful; hopefully the volume will address this issue. While When To Aranui? the FP is the opposite of our northwest season.

It' a very interesting and unusual trip! What time to travel on the Aranui? We have just got back from the Aranui III on 15 March. We' ve noticed that March is still the'rainy season' in Polynesia, although the wet period is almost over. However, we like to travel when it's winters in the USA, so we took a break and book the trip on March 15, with a full weekend on Moorea before the trip.
In Papeete and Moorea we found the rain quite raining both before and after our trip. However, as we headed up to the Marquesas to the south, the wind and swell eased and we had nice, clear Marquesas sunshine (they are 800 leagues from Tahiti ) for the whole two sabbaths.
Only 120 people were on board, no kids at all, and it was beautiful overall.
