Travel to Lanai Hawaii

I am often asked: "If you are living in Hawaii, where do you go on holiday? "If I am sincere, O'ahu has so much to discover that a visit to other parts of the isle can be a holiday. If we really want to get away, the other Hawaiian Isles offer exactly the kind of adventures or relax we want.

My fiance and I enjoy escaping the hurly-burly of O'ahu. Probably one of the most underestimated of the Hawai'i Isles, Lanai offers endless countryside, pristine shores, stunning sundowns and an insuperable level of recreation. Lanai is the 6th biggest of the Hawaiian Isles and was recently acquired by Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle, from Castle & Cooke.

So what does Lanai do for you? Now that we've visited Lanai twice, we've both remained at the Four Seasons: There are two other resort facilities, the Four Seasons Manele Bay and Hotel Lanai, also available for those on the run; I really don't think you can go anywhere else with any of the choices.

During our first journey we hired a jeep for Lanai's renowned off-road adventure, which included Garden of the Gods and Shipwreck Beach, but we quickly realised that if you just wanted to take in the tranquil landscape of the resort, there is an unrestricted shuttleservice between all three of them and the city centre for your comfort and a one-time surcharge.

On the second journey we decided to use the shuttles and enjoyed every facet of the resort's and Lanai City's offerings. For a little adventurous (as we did on our first trip), Lanai's top off-road destinations - Garden of the Gods, Shipwreck Beach and Sweetheart Rock - could be the ideal complement to your route.

SUVs and SUVs are the only ways to explore these scenic places, but they are definitely a worthwhile trip. We' ve decided to go to Shipwreck Beach for dawn and have seen many of Lanai's fierce stags along Manele Roads. The lodge offers luxuriant landscaping and lawns, while the Bay of Manele offers the beauties of the sea as far as the eyes can see.

Mayberry-like Quaint Lanai City has cafés, diners and several small stores to browse in - the kind of place where diners have regular guests and everyone warms up. I have never fought as a traveller with a fire blight problem to find something tasty and gluten-free! Don't worry - the resort is completely sheltered.

Four Seasons Lodge in Koele has a terrace and dinning room. Four Seasons Manele Bay has a greater choice of places to eat - Nobu Lanai, Kailani, ONE FORTY and the Ocean Hale. It is a totally unadulterated adventure and a must for travellers looking for the best food and gastronomy on the isle.

Hotel Lanai in the centre of Lanai City features the Lanai City Grille. Only open for supper, we had lunch here one night to make sure we had the full Lanai adventure. In such a small isle it may seem as if one journey would be enough to feed a "checkbox" or to feed the "made there" mindset - but can one ever really get too much recreation and spoil?
