Tell them you' re going to Fiji is almost as much as it is to go there. While Fiji certainly has no lack of palm-fringed shores and shimmering sea life, its rich culture and ethic of welcoming and informal welcome are also part of its thrill. Sometimes the Fiji ambience is like a florist's upmarket.

The majority of our round-trip air travel lands in Nadi on Viti Levu, the biggest isle. Nadi has little charm, and the large resort on Denarau islet, sufficient for an night if your timetable requires it, has little space. It is most magic on the Outlands, where all the resort I have suggested have been at home so far:

Yasawa and The Wakaya Club. Curiously to see if Fiji's capital found a luxurious hiding place, I spent 30 min flying through the emerging inside to the resort's airfield. All of Nanuku's evolution, consisting of an 18-room residential complex and privately owned mansions, extends along an almost two mile long sand shore overlooking the lush cusps of the Isle of Beqa and Yanuca.

It had a large patio that turned around three sides of the apartment and was equipped with a barbecue, a whirlpool and an infinite bath.

On the upper floor, the MASTERSUITE was characterized by a bathtub with jets, two washbasins cut from blocks of rock and two extra terraces: Later on, at the Hauptbar, we met one of the financers of the Resorts. Unfortunately, the walk through the waterfalls, which we had reserved in advanced, was cancelled twice, so that we organised a Zodiac ride through the mangrove just behind the Mangrove.

However, the Royal Davui services were lacking the unrestrained heat of Nanuku, and his place was poor. If you want the best Fiji holiday, I suggest a visit to Nanuku, followed by several overnight stays in one of my suggested destinations on the Outlying Isles.
