Raviz Resort and Spa Ashtamudi KollamLac Ashtamudi
When we think of Ashtamudi, we think of an uproar of blueness and greenness. Ashtamudi Lake's huge blue-green water, where the city of Ashtamudi is located, is a paradise and one wonders if the locals know how happy they are to live there!
In the Ashtamudi Sea the dawn is a view, as the first gold beams of sunlight are filtering through the ghostlike fog that settles over the sea at noon. An astonishing twitter of a multitude of aquatic species, some native and some migratory, wakes you up to another lovely mornings over the peribe.
Birdwatchers can dive in for breakfasts as the small fishermen' vessels slide across the calm water and begin their mornings. These gigantic China networks are striking like mystic lighthouses of ancient times, watching over the lakes' water bodies. Astamudi's best way to experience is a house boat trip where you can experience the natural world in a very private way, without being disturbed by any element except the bird.
Most of the small island in this lagoon are populated by peasants and fishermen; their humble way of live has not undergone much change over the years and you can get a foretaste of the countryside there, receiving visitors with open heart and an inviting smile. It is very interesting because the name of the sea is derived from the eight ducts through which it is supplied; the word'ashta' means eight, while'mudi' means heads, which makes it the eight 10tacles of an Octoberus or the form of a coconut.
It extends for about 16 km and is the gate to the world-famous Kerala Backwater. Mangroves, as well as countless orchards and the ubiquitous palm groves, can be found on the shores of this area. It flows into the Neendakara Mouth, where the whole year round thousand of aquatic species live.
Situated on the shores of the shore of the sea, Kollam has been a historic commercial centre for more than a thousand years, and there is still proof of the impact of the various lands through which it was trader. There are many wonderful palm-fringed sandy areas around, making this area a must for every traveller.
Ashtamudi is very simple to reach because Trivandrum International Airports is only 70 km away, while the train stations are only 3 km from the city. You can also reach Kollam easily via the motorway.
