The last Ocean Film
Last Ocean FilmMovie Review - The Last Ocean
Usually I don't read film critiques because they often tell too much about the story or, even more badly, too much about how the film ends. As it is characteristic for this kind of film, The Last Ocean does not adhere to the three-act phrase we see on the canvas.
You may not even know where the Ross Sea is. He' s starting to ask the New Yorkers what they know about the Ross Sea. But he doesn't feel much better when he asks the same questions in Wellington' city centre, which is only a stone's throw from the southernmost ocean and one of the most astonishing places in the world in comparison to the USA.
Once it has determined its position, Doko is ready to explore the Ross Sea. As the Ross Sea is the most primordial ocean eco-system on Earth due to the minimum effects of man-made activities, the term "Last Ocean" is used. It is described as a live lab in which researchers can learn about oceanography, as has been the case for millennia.
The purpose of this document, however, is that the original nature of this eco-system is under threat from regional fisheries. Every year, every season, DOCOCO shows the growing interest in bringing to the bottom of the globe vessels to retrieve prehistoric-looking toothed fish from the Ross Sea.
This began in 1996, when New Zealand sent the first fishermen' s vessel, but now up to 20 boats fight their way through the South Ocean and the rough weather of every year. The views of a large group of academics, embassies, politicians and fishermen are recorded by young people. While some consider the Ross Sea to be a perfectly sensible fishery, others regard it as the executioner's ax for a delicate area.
A strong point of this Doko is the quiet and well presented case for the protection of the Ross Sea. Young-Young says he's no anti-fisher, but the Ross Sea should be off limits. Fisheries not only affect the stock of freshwater species, but also the equilibrium of the entire eco-system. Stuart Prior, a New Zealand native, who opened the Ross Sea Fisheries business 16 years ago, is one of the main advocates of Ross Sea fishermen.
Publication of The Last Ocean comes at the right time. This October, the 25 member states of the authority responsible for the protection of Antarctica's sea creatures will be discussing the Ross Sea protection proposal. The Last Ocean's viewers are asked to take part in writing the end of this film.
Right now it could go both ways, but Young says our government will react to popular sentiment, and he asks spectators to exit the theater and take measures by calling on policy makers to ensure that New Zealand presses for full security at the October part-session. Part of the New Zealand Film Festival, The Last Ocean will be shown all over the Netherlands in the next few heaps.
