Taveuni lies to the south of Fiji, where you will find the Somosomo Road with world-famous places such as the Great White Wall and the Rainbow Reef. Taveuni is called "Garden Island" because of the colorful abundance of exotic vegetation and blooms and is enclosed by water as abundant as the top side vegetation, making it the informal dive city.
It is an isle of the luxuriant rain forest, free of urban centers or touristic hotspots, which makes it a favourite place to experience all the miracles of Fiji. Though it preserves an off-path ambience, it is the third biggest of its kind in the land, located in the amazing water of the world-famous Somosomo Strait just south of Viti Levu.
While Taveuni has a great deal to do, it retains its islands charms and the look of nature. Its jagged coastline rises to the heights of volcanoes, making the land as fruitful as everywhere in Fiji. Whilst the most important activities are to be found in the sea, many visitors come to hike to remote seas and falls, to see the diversity of birds on the islands, to go horseback riding from one lonely cove to the next or to take part in the many water sports on display.
There are many possibilities for those looking for an activity holiday and the isle is easily accessible. Many of the best dive sites on the islands are located in the canal between Vanua Levu and the northwest shore of Taveuni, known as the Somosomo Strait. Examine your possibilities for a stay in this dive and natural islands paradise:
Toveuni Resorts - Some of our real estate is located in the immediate vicinity of Somosomo Strait and offers simple entry to the most famous scuba divesites. You can also remain further southwards, where the divesites are less crowded by scuba diver, but are also popular with those who come to them from their top class shelters. The scuba dives are carried out by means of everyday speed boat tours and are the focal point of the visitors who are on the islands.
Unoccompanied scuba diving is also an optional extra when you stay at several of the resorts. More information about these diving sites: Taveuni]. The Taveuni is suitable for those who want to go diving and participate in other onshore diving and also for those who do not want to go diving all days - every single one. It can also be a flight of islands, with some of the resorts, especially the more costly ones, enjoy a very remote, isolated area.
As there are many different places along this long coast line, a 1 weeks holiday is perfect. The package includes full pension and scuba dive. When you plan to spend the night in Fiji before or after your Taveuni dive holiday, you will find a selection of accommodations at hotelscombined.com, our associated hotels-reservers: hotelscombined.com:
The hottest but wetest month of Taveuni are the summers of December to March, when day temperature is 30°C on averages. Taveuni resorts are open all year round, but the high seasons are from April to October. To Taveuni is easily accessible, with several departures a day from Nadi, although the distances make it costly to come for a sojourn.
The Fiji Airways, Northern Air and Iceland Hoppers fly every day from Nadi (1½ hours) or Suva (1 hour) to Matei Airport on Taveuni. If you have at least one weeks time, the Suva to the mainland is a very attractive option. We therefore advise you to take out dive, holiday and withdrawal insurances.
Besides the marvellous dive Taveuni has a lot to offer for the lovers of the outdoors. Voeux Peak, the second highest point on the islands, is also a worthwhile place for birdwatchers. Matamaiqi blowsholes and seaside panda woods are the major tourist attraction in the southern part of Taveuni. It is a great place for the ornithologists inside you to observe unusual and lovely species such as the parrot and fantail.
Ride in the southern part of the isle or fish from Matei if you want to devote the rest of the day to killing the magnificent animals you saw in the mornings. The small islets that surround the principal isle have some lovely sandy whitewashed shores, while Taveuni's vulcanic past has bequeathed them with subtle sands.
Off the north-east coastline of Taveuni are 3 wonderful islands: dancing teams, publishes, go-go-shops, froth party and the like have not yet made it to Taveuni. The Waiyevo and Naqara are probably the best restaurants in the southern part of the isle. Aside from the resorts where eating can be great, there are other possibilities, even if the price is rather simple and consists of West, India and Vietnamese cuisine.
The town of Matej in the northern part of Taveuni is home to some of the best places on the islands where you can dine on deck or porch and watch the airplanes landing at the airports above the isles. Handicraft for purchase in the diving centers and in Waiyevo are of the tradional wood and weave.
There is a very slow bus ride around the islands and it is a great place to chat with the people.
