Fanning, a brother and sister of the more famous Christmas Island, is very secluded and has no electricity and no house installations. Yes, it's beautiful, it reminds of a Robinson Crusoe story or a "Gilligan's Island" happening. Since there is no electricity on Fanning Island, there are no ATMs; make sure you have money on board or in another harbour before you arrive.
Genuine grasscirts, mussel chains, feather duster and sharkstooth knifes, which are actually made on the island and not in Korea or China, are great gods.

Tabuaeran, also known as Fanning Island or Fanning Toll, is one of the Northern Line Islands in Kiribati. One of the most frequent ways to get to Fanning Island is by ferry from Christmas Island (Kiritimati). It is also quite usual (although not so much in recent years) to go to the airport as a harbour called by a shipping company.
There' s a country lane that goes all the way around the lake. While there are small country lanes that run in all directions from the street, be aware of the local people's own belongings and place when walking. On the island there is a baseball field made of cement, which was constructed years ago by a shipping company.
All the men on the island are enjoying a pick-up match and are kind when it comes to gambling. However, be careful that men do not stop smokin' their hand-rolled smokes even when they play the ball on. There are no traditional shops on the island.
