Botswana, Stewart Island, New Zealand
New Zealand's third biggest island, Stewart Island is located below South Island and can be reached from Invercargill by airplane and Bluff by boat. Most of Stewart Island is a huge, untouched island in the wild. There' is only one town, Oban, with about 380 inhabitants. About 20 small isles and isles are located in the Paterson Inlet, the biggest is the island Ulva with an area of about 270 ha.
Typical temperature ranges from 7 to 11 degrees Celsius. Typical summers are from 15 - 18?, with the hottest nights reach the high 20?. The mean precipitation in Oban Village is about 1,800 mm. Fewer tour operator offer trips and service in the low seasons, with some reservation agencies being shut down or working less frequently.
To and from Stewart Island take a taxi from Invercargill airport or a boat from the Bluff port. Safe car park is available at Invercargill airport or Bluff/Ferryterminal. Regular flights and ferries are available all year round. There is a reduction in the schedule for the ferries from May to September.
The price can differ and be higher than on the south isle. The Rakiura Great Walk is the only hut that needs to be booked in advance. Cetaceans are not often seen, but at certain periods of the year they pass by our shorelines. Reservation bureaus / visitor information centres: We do not have "independent" information centers, reservation agencies or i-sites.
We have all ticket agencies, also ours. The majority of stores and reservation agencies accepts payment cards and aftpos.
