"It' s very different to have 25 kids of the same old and therefore have a similar level of study as 25 kids between the ages of five and 13, all of whom need different programs. It' really too big an anticipation for a teacher," she said. When these newcomers have to join forces in a group of 13 senior citizens and only one instructor, it is feared by teachers and teachers that the training will be of poorly-qualified.

This school has created a directory for a host of school-age families. "You had, like, 24 babies in school," says Bronwen Simpson. Stewart Island has 387 inhabitants and is far away from the urban environment of Auckland. The Simpson familiy is well integrated into island living, Johnson says.
"It' been really great having some new guys here. "You gave us a cane to lock the building at night," says Bronwen Simpson.
