Oban's most important (and only) city has all the essential such as backpackers lodging and a convenient shop (which is not horrendously expensive), which means that there is no apology for not staying on the island for a while.

Hike to a large variety of sandy beaches such as Dead Man Bay and Horseshoe Bay. Watch a kiwifruit fowl. Hire a roller, MTB or automobile to see as much of the island as possible. Make a brief cruise to Ulva Island. Bluff is the most frequent and inexpensive way to get to Stewart Island by sea transport.

There are three daily ferries from Stewart Island and Bluff. Stewart Island Flights take off from Invercargill three flights a daily for a nicer and faster itinerary. Helicopters are a very fast way, perfect for daily excursions to Stewart Island. The Rakiura helicopters are flying between Bluff and Stewart Island.

Between Bluff and Stewart Island, the oceans are a paradise for anglers, so Stewart Island restaurant offers the coolest products.
