Spratly Islands
Spatly IslandsThe Spratly Islands is very important: Spratly Islands are located in the South China Sea - one of the largest continental shelves in the world.
Primordial Islands - Spratly Islands in, South China Sea
All 750 oysters, cliffs, reefs and islands that make up Spratly Islands would be less than five sqkm. Spread over 400,000 sq km of oceans, these islands may seem inconsequential. China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei have for various reason considered all these dispersed islands important enough to be claimed, established a strategic base and even attempted to colonise them.
Everything for a sentence far thrown sand stripes in the center of the sea. Spratly Islands are located in the centre of the South China Sea, half way between the Philippines and Vietnam. They are hardly better off today as their location puts them near some of the most congested shipping lanes in the whole wide globe, which include the trading lanes linking East Asia with India, the Near East and Europe, and through which China, Japan and Korea receive 80% of their much needed supplies of oleopharma.
In addition, even according to provisional investigations, the Spratlys are located on huge deposits of crude ore. China and Taiwan (PRC and ROC) and Vietnam both rely on historic notes, doubtful mediaeval maps and the occasional use of fish. Filipino aspirations are founded on the much more recent story, the acts of Tomas Cloma.
In 1947 Cloma was a Filipino adventure and fishermen tycoon who tried to win over some of the altolls for a private micro-nation, the short-lived and perhaps somewhat redundant called " Free Territory of Freedomland ". "However, the islands were once under the control of the Kingdom of Champa (now Cambodia and South Vietnam); Chinese Buddhist scholar usually ask the King of Champa for approval to cross the ocean in which these islands are in.
It also occupies part of the island as the islands are located on an elongation of the Malaysian nartheas. Whereas little Brunei did not give any formal information, a fishery area has been set up which intersects with the south part of the island. PRC, ROC, Vietnam, Philippines and Malaysia have armed presence on the islands.
With a length of 1.4 km and a width of 400 metres, Itu Aba is the biggest of the islands and is currently manned by Taiwan (ROC). In the meantime, the Philippine army was compelled to expand the Philippine capital Pag-asa (the second biggest of the Spratly Islands Group) in order to adapt its runways.
To strengthen its right to Pag-asa, the Philippine goverment has tried to build a genuine society there by providing free access to safe livelihoods, shelters, employment and livelihoods for every citizen who wants to be there. Currently part of the Kalayaan commune, it even has its own local councillor, but has its own offices in Puerto Princesa on Palawan, the closest populated Philippine Isle.
There are many different ways to use the different islands. The Malaysians have chosen a gentle, economical way of doing this by making Layang Layang an important touristic dive destination with a link to the North. Once a two-meter high sanddune in the center of the sea, Gaven Reefs now carries a massive concrete boulder with a tall metallic framework and a two-story over it.
