Changes of the shoreline on the Society Islands (French Polynesia)
Those who live on the hilly islands of the social archiepiscopal system are fortunate enough to profit from the tranquil water of the lagoons. The shoreline of the mountain islands, the intersection between the terrestric and lagoons, is mainly covered by high levels of flora in its native form. Rock, sand and mud can be explained by geomorphological features directly related to the transition of any mountain isle into an oriel.
Whereas the shoreline on the mountains of the social archiepiscopal islands is largely unspoilt, more than 40% has been directly altered by man. Nevertheless, this anthropogenisation does not correspond to demographic concentration or inequity. This results from the complexity of the interaction between man and nature. Slope work and the excavation of material from the fringe are particularly damaging environmental activity.
Recent worries about sea-level rise have highlighted the coastline's ability for mankind's activity and the coastal strip's evolution in the area. The only way to preserve the island's population' s balance, both naturally and humanely, is through common cultivation of the area.
